Take a walk to the Lotus Pond
Aug 2020
The Lotus Pond (also called the Lotus Lake) is on the east side of the Zuoying District of Kaohsiung. It is actually an artificial reservoir, completed in 1951. It has numerous temples surrounding the lake, including the Spring and Autumn Pavilions, and the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. There is also a crooked bridge, to deter ghosts -- ghosts can only go in straight lines. Several aquatic events in the 2009 World Games were held here. The Lotus Pond has many lotus flowers emerging from the slime -- this makes it special feature of Kaohsiung.

Beautiful lake
Nov 2019
This is one of the more beautiful areas to visit in Kaohsiung. We took a local bus here in the afternoon and the weather was quite hot. It was a fairly large lake with many beautiful temples, pavilions and towers dotted around the lake. If you come to Kaohsiung, this is a must visit area. We also saw lots of lotus plants in the lake near the dragon and tiger towers.

A beautiful oasis in northern Kaohsiung
Jun 2020 • Solo
First went to Lotus Lake (sometimes referred to as Lotus Pond) on a business trip several years ago. The factory took us on a tour one afternoon, after a long morning of cost negotiations. Introduced us to all the main attractions around the lake. Plenty of temples. Generations of history. Oozing in culture.

Now I find myself visiting mostly for daily runs. It’s such a perfect place to run. About 2kms around the entire lake. Beautiful views across the water. Stunning temples. Solitude from the busy traffic. Surrounded by other runners, walkers, cyclists, fishermen (have yet to see a fisherwomen), and quite a few dragon boats practicing in the early mornings and weekends. There is also a wakeboard pulley system on the southern end behind the dragon temple.

There are just enough trees around the perimeter of the lake to provide an ideal cover from the hot sun. On that note, it’s a perfect place to take in the sunset, that occurs over two twin temples, making for a picturesque daily event.

While I’ve never been, there is a nice little coffee shop/restaurant in the north end. A good place to take in the aforementioned stunning sunset. Will try it one day.

This is a must stop on any trip to Kaohsiung. And if you are lucky enough to live here, I’d make it a regular spot for your morning/evening run, walk, or bike ride.

Nice peaceful lake to walk
Feb 2020 • Couples
Visited lotus lake with my wife on our last day in Taiwan. If you want a peaceful walk with nice scenery and food markets close for your convenience it's the place to be. Part of the lake is used for a wakeboard park. There are several Towers with long walkways stretching across the lake. Not much else I can say but a very picture friendly place, enjoy!

Beautiful
Feb 2020 • Couples
This is a lovely place to go and wander around the lake. There are many beautiful temples and pavilions to see; Dragon-Tiger Pavilion, Ciji Temple, Spring Autumn Pavilion, Qiming Temple and Beiji Xuantizn Shanf Di Pavilion were my personal favourites (all of these are on the same side of the lake). There are some nice souvenir shops just opposite the Dragon-Tiger Pavilion too. The lake is just a short 5minute walk from Zuoying Station.

Lakeside walk
Jan 2020
We walked from Zuoying down the western side, viewing several temples on the way until we reached the dragon and tiger pagodas. For good luck, one is supposed to run up the dragon and down the tiger, but with crowded conditions, I had to walk. The southern end is a little remote from trains, so it is best to plan ahead for a bus connection.

Nice Area, busy market
Jan 2020 • Couples
We went to this area in the evening to walk around the pond and check out the temples and pagodas. Got some nice pictures of the structures on the water and checked out the market between attractions. Market can get busy and it is at times difficult to walk around the market and near the pond. There were quite a few birds in the lotus plants and on the banks to see as well. Bathrooms near the pagodas and there were some mosquitos out.

Nice experience
Dec 2019
The lake itself with the pagodas and statues is very nice, but there are not many things to do around the lake. A couple of temples but the most of the surrounding area is quite modern and without any interest. A couple of hours is more than enough.

Wonderful pagodas at Lotus Lake
Jan 2020 • Couples
An easy walk around the lake allowed us to see all the beautiful and varied pagodas on Lotus Lake. You can go inside or climb to the top of some. There were people playing dice games and singing karaoke in different areas of the walk. A peaceful place in spite of tourists.

Interesting enterance thru dragon; good views from top floor (many steps)
Dec 2019
We stopped here to view the twin pagodas with their interesting enterances -- thru the mouth of a dragon or a tiger. It is free to do this. If you make a donation, you get a small post card. One can climb many steps to get to the top floor. From there, one has good views of the lake and area. There are many places to eat across the street.
