Gorgeous Forest with positive Energy
Feb 2020 • Couples
This reminds me the root of wood at Kurama Mountain in Kyoto. You can sense the positive energy and very Zen-like atmosphere to let you relax & meditate. Somehow, only this circle of trees show this special energy to comfort you within. Standing or sitting inside the circle, you mingle yourself (your spirit) with all the woods surrounding, sky and the earth underneath. Instead of driving up to the entrance, you have the option to take one of 4 wheel drive autos for a very reasonable price. Have fun and enjoy this unique experience.

Unique experience

This place is seldom mentioned in guide books and I only learnt of this place via friends. It’s actually on the same road to the Sung long waterfall so you can do this in the morning then lunch at the Sung Long waterfall which is located within a national park (cafe and snack bars there). We hired a taxi from sun moon lake and took 1.5hr to get there. The temperature drop was quite acute and we regretted for not bringing warmer clothes (felt like 14-15c up on the hills). You need an experienced driver there as the uphill ascent is full of hairpin turns and extremely dense mist with 1-2meter visibility can set in within minutes. Many cars and tour buses often crossed the lane toward the opposite traffic as they turn which adds to the ‘excitement’. Do not drive there yourself unless you are a local. The forest appears to be on top of several private tea plantations so you must drop your car off at one of their designated ‘checkpoints’ ( you won’t miss them as plenty of staff with loudspeakers will solicit you) , then pay 100twd per person for a special shuttle 7-seater which will bring u up there. This trip up to the forest is part of the excitement as the tiny road up there is extremely windy and steep and full of deep portholes. The ride reminded us of a kiddie roller coaster at fun parks ! As soon as you get there just follow the signs, you walk across the side of this hut and then you will see a rusty bridge which brings you to the forest. Do wear hiking boots as there is not Road really, it’s
Full of exposed tree roots, muddy puddles, rocks and planks. It can be very challenging for younger kids and impossible for elderly who walk with aids. But we are used to such beaten tracks so it adds to the fun. When we got there our minds were completely taken away by the ethereal quality of the place, the sunlight streamed through the mist, the grey tree trunks set against the mirrored lake/ waters... it is mesmerizing. The only short coming was that it was Sunday so there were a number of visitors there and some teenagers broke the peace and tranquillity by washing their muddy boots in the water and made quite a noise....sigh. Try to go late morning and please be nice to Nature and bring your trash with you. Some visitors left their trash behind after picnicking there 😢

Definitely worth a visit

This place is located quite far from Taichung. However it is unique and located within the mountains and clouds. You will know how worth it when you reach there!

The scenery is nice but was not the so called "secret " place as expected. The place was crowded with many visitors even in rainy day.

Forest full of barren tree trunks
Dec 2016 • Couples
Its a natural landscape now a tourist spot caused by the most powerful earthquake that hit taiwan where the epicentre is in Nantou County , result is this swamp where the tree trunks are the only things left. Its a good place for photographers lovers to stay for most of the days to capture the lovely shots , every hour of the day the sights is different due to the sun , clouds or fog that overcast the sky at different time of the day . Slopes are very steep so its advise to take a 4x4 van service provided by the local tea shop owners at the foot of the hill , charges are NT 100 per trip so its 200 for each pax which you have to spend otherwise the other option is to climb your way up which will take around half an hour and on your way back it will guarantee that you will have trembling knees if you really finished your way back ( van takes 5 minutes )
After the van drops you off at the entrance you need to take a walk through the muddy soil to reach the swamp so its my advice to you to wear shoes with a good grip otherwise its pretty slippery , ifs its raining then be careful with every step you tread on, but the sight is worth it

information: avoid the tourist trap
Jul 2016 • Friends
Is on the road between sitou and shanlinxi, then or you walk up a very steepy road or you pay 200 ntd for 10 minutes ride by shuttle bus, i think it's very expensive, so go on foot!

Unique forest
Jan 2016 • Family
In this natural landscape, many trees dead in the water.Since the collapse of earth and rock blocking the river so formed swamp.Because of the earthquake in 1999.9.21.
There are towering fir and often fog.So it looks very beautiful. But the slippery road,so recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes.Another point to better rainy day.

Has been there on a rainy day - it was a mess but totally worth it!!
different view at different time throughout one single day.
Early Morning - clear sky
Afternoon - foggy mysterious forwest
We arrived there at aound 2, it was really foggy already that along the road we drove we already felt like we were entering some kind of long-forsaken forest.
The cafe up there is off on Wed and Thur so we approached the tea shops there for the transfer. strongly recommend you get the transfer as the road is really really steep. it hurts your legs esp if you walk downwards.
it was right after the storm striked taiwan so obviously it is filled with water.
but the view is stunning and you would probably think you were in the forest of 'Princess Mononoke' of Hayao Miyazaki.
You can actually walk along the pond but it was so messy and we decided not to.we even saw a number of cosplayers!
yet the vans of the tea shops broke down and we had to walk back, it actually took us 20-25 mins but it was quite tiring. If you are those kind of hikers, I still recommend you to walk up there and take transfer back!
just becareful what shoes you wear to there becoz of the dirts esp when it rains.
and please protect this beautiful enviorment together and do NOT littering!
