See the inside of a major earthquake fault
Feb 2017 • Solo
This exhibition will give you a good understanding and appreciation of the powerful underground effects of an earthquake. Although the Chelungpu Fault Preservation Park website is in Chinese, except for the description on the National Museum of Natural Science (NMNS) website, there are plenty of English explanations at the site. There is an excellent explanation video that projects on to various parts of the fault trench which describes them in English. An English-speaking guide can sometimes be arranged through the information room at the NMNS in Taichung. I rented an 8-hour taxi to take me from Taichung to the 921 Earthquake Museum, where I spent 3-hours, then to this site, where I spent another 3-hours, then return me to my Taichung hotel for 3,800NT. If you have two days, a cheaper way is to take the Ubus 50 from the Taichung Railroad station area to the 921 Earthquake Museum on one day, and then the 6188 or Taichung Tourist bus from the HSR Taichung station to the fault park in Zhushan on the second day. Both bus ride times should be under an hour. Bring a picture(s) of your destination site to communicate with the bus driver.

Geography lesson comes alive

We left the Xitou Education Area by bus and arrived in time for the 3d movie as well as the presentation of the faultline.

If you present your entry ticket to the Xitou Education Area, you can qualify for a hefty discount here.

Most impressive was the sight and sound show that really enabled you to understand how the entire area was uplifted layer by layer thanks to mother nature over the centuries.

Be sure to leave as the museum is closing to catch the bus back to Taichung at the bus stop right in front of the museum.
