We were on the way to Manali from Dharamsala and visited ChamundaDevi temple. We learnt there is this Zoo on the way and is good. We decided to spend sometime as we had 2 kids with us and it was worth visiting really.

Its a real big zoo so can be best enjoyed if you have say 3-4 hours. We were in a hurry and spend an hour. There are deers, bears etc. The most interesting being Lion and Leapords.
We got to see 2 leopards from so close. Some people said they were able to see Lion but unfortunately we missed the opportunity.

If one has couple of hours to spend between the journey, this can be a good place to stopover for sightseen.

We were visiting Chamunda Devi temple where we saw the board of Dhauladhar national park - 6 kms from there. We decided to go there and didnt regret it later. its a small zoo located in Gopalpur. the drive to the place is very good and goes through private tea estates. The place has few animals like Lion, black bear, leopard, cheetal etc. Being an animal lover, I enjoyed the place very much.

Amazing mountains. Just a few hundred Kms always from the sweltering heat of Delhi.
The mountains are so inviting. They seem as a wall following or preceding us all the time. The weather suddenly changes and the veritable nip in the air was really there in the middle of the hot Indian summer!
The range is inviting and beautiful… the white peaks speak for themselves… So high that the snow never melts! These mountains have various Hindu Gods’ names to them. Its interesting to know them and understand them… Couldn’t go any nearer…

The National park offers great treks, camping spots and adventures. Some places which are not known to the touristic circles are the villages of Salli & Kanol. Most of the treks start from there. One can trek to Druni Taal, Kareri Lake, Baleni Pass, Minkhiani pass, Lam Dal and traverse the entire range to Indrahara pass. Try the snowmonkcamp. in situated at salli village which offers great treks and accommodation. They can arrange everything

The Himachal Valley, engulfed with tea leaves, boasts of this (what locals call a mini-zoo) wild life park. The range of animals is not very great but indeed the animals at show are wild - be it it the number of black bears, the asian lion, leopard and the rest.
great outing for the kids.

I went to Dhauladhar National Park. Sprawling over an area of 30 acres, Dhauladhar National Park is an ideal place for wildlife buffs. The best time to visit here is between March and June. It is great place to go.

Dhauladhar National Park, which is a animal zoo, is located about 30 mins ride from Dharamshala and is situated in the lap of Dhauladhar mountain ranges. You'll see quite a few animal species. The main attraction's are leopard, himalayan bears, sambars and barking dears. There are many bird species as well in the zoo. the entry fee is quite nominal. The zoo is not that big as compared to other zoos. As it is situated on a hilly region, the walkways in the zoo are not flat, and you have to go up and down while going from one section to other in the zoo. Carry your water bottle when going here.
