About
Heping Island was called Sheliao Island in the past. It is located at the north of Taiwan. Heping Bridge connects the island to Keelung City. In 1626, the Spanish army built castles, churches and fortresses, preparing to do business with China and Japan. The castle on the southwest is called San Salvador, the saint savior. This is the first and currently the only castle in Keelung. During the Spanish occupation, Heping Island had busy trading activities with Southeast Asia. After World War II, the island was renamed Heping Island. Today, it is a famous tourist attraction. Heping Island is perfect for diving and sea fishing. With years of erosion by the wind and sea, the eroded rocks and coasts have formed special shapes. We have made Heping Island a coastal park with Ocean pools, beach, tour track, tourism service center and food and beverages. An idealy place for family to have fun together.

This is a very "Taiwanese" park, mobbed by locals who are alternately attracted to the water and repelled by the prospect of a suntan. I can't imagine why a foreign tourist would go here, unless they were stuck in a hotel room with small kids. If that is your situation, then by all means take your toddler for a walk around the short loop trail, and let them splash in the public pool.

Thank you for your comment. Except ocean-view swimming pool, our park also have mountain trail. Along with this trail, you can see many different shape rock formation. And we have English audio tour app for foreign tourist download. Thank you again.

Before we saw the colorful house at Jeonghama Fishing Port, we visited here for the strange rock-lined landscape, and there was variety in the landscape, such as the distant view of Keelung Island and the seawater pool, if not the forest of mushroom rocks like wild willows. The bus terminates in front of the park, and you can walk outside of your comfort zone, where the stray dogs are stationed. A taxi from the station may be a good option in hot weather. Taxis are parked in the park parking lot on the way home.

I used to ride my motorcycle around in college, but after it was closed for renovations, I never had the chance to visit again, and I always wanted to come back. This family trip arranged a visit here. It turned out to be very beautiful and clean. The overall planning was very good and it was also very clean. You can swim, play in the sand and slide on the slide. There is a parking lot, restaurant, drinking fountain, toilet, and souvenir shop inside.

If you enjoy viewing coastal landforms, you would like to check the park out. It's not overrun by tourists, like in Yeliu. I went on a Friday afternoon. There were few visitors. The stroll was very pleasant without rowdy crowds. You can't get down on the rocks like in Yeliu. There is a walkway around the park where you can enjoy views of the eroded rocks, the special features and the open sea. There are cafes in the visitors centre building.

I wish I had visited in the summer but I still enjoyed this place very much. It is alternately known as Ho-Ping Park, Heping Park and Peace Island…pick one, but get the instructions to the place in Chinese to get back on track should you get lost.
I was on a cruise ship so I opted for a taxi rather than a bus to get me there just in case it wasn't easy getting back on schedule.
It was only 7 kms from the ship and would cost $7 USD each way by taxi plus a few bucks for the entrance fee and snacks.
The taxi dispatcher at the cruise terminal kept pointing to a different destination (Yehliu) on his picture chart of tourist spots saying that it would be better. I was firm and insisted that this place was where we wanted to visit. He let us know that there would be no one there (exactly!) and that we would have to pay a standing fee for the cab to wait one hour. No worries. If I had been alone, I might have simply taken the local bus back but we agreed to pay $900 Taiwan Dollar ($30 USD) roundtrip.
Arriving at the park, it looked just like it had on Google street view. Not a tour bus in sight! We paid the entrance fee and received a bunch of coins as change.
There was a hill with what looked to be manicured trees on it because it was so neat and tidy and symmetrical. The wind at this place is strong. It is responsible for all of the interesting land formations and probably is the gardener that created the bonsai on the hill.
It was only about eleven degrees Celsius so we bundled up in scarves and sweaters and raincoats then made our way along a stone path towards the sea. Tables and hibachis were provided for picnickers.
We passed a little family made up of Grand-dad, young mother and rosy-cheeked 9 month old baby in a bunting sling tied against mum.
I gestured and spoke in English that they were a beautiful family. The daughter answered us in English asking where we were from and how we had discovered this place. I answered "internet" and she seemed surprised!
The Taiwanese people are so friendly and helpful. We heard from many fellow passengers that if they seemed lost or confused, someone would offer assistance without prompting.
We approached the rocky beach where waves crashed high into the air like a geyser. I got some video of it. We viewed the rocks shaped into tiny mushrooms by the force of erosion and read about the graffiti cave where ancient Dutch mariners had left their mark. At this time of year, we were not allowed to walk to the cave or among the mushroom rocks but I got some pictures.
It was gorgeous and like I had mentioned previously...completely devoid of tourist crowds. It was quiet except for the constant howling wind and extremely clean.
Time to hit the sandy beach and see the water up close! The park set up a sea wall to enclose a natural sea-water pool. In this way the waves bash around 50m outside the swimming area so the bathers are protected from being swept out to sea. Fish can and do enter the pool though.
I had come prepared with my one piece swimsuit, snorkel, aqua socks, travel towel and wetsuit liner but man...it was windy! There were a few local men and women swimming laps in the 20 degree Celsius water in just their bathing suits. I could have been convinced to join them but didn't want to abandon my friend who thought I was crazy. I did get in to my knees just to feel the water but I didn't see any critters.
We stopped into the gift shop where we were offered tea and samples of local treats! I bought some dried sesame fish candy, you'll have to see it to believe it and yes, it is good!
Again, the shop staff wanted to know how we found them and were amazed to know that their park was on the internet to be discovered by anyone in the world. The tourist bureau promotes other parks more aggressively so they don't see many foreigners here.
I used the Taiwanese coins to purchase some vending machine drinks as souvenirs and found the cab back to the ship. It was a very beautiful place but my photo skills are lacking. You need to visit it your self to enjoy such a unique experience!

Keelung Peace Island took me by surprise when I visited, as it has really amazing views of the coastline and the natural rocks. This place is very accessible (take bus 101/102 from Keelung train station, about 30 min journey). Must-visit!

Came here right after Yeh Liu Geopark.
Simply take a bus to Keelung, and from Keelung there is a bus that goes all the way into Peace Island (He Ping Dao).
Just check google maps, it's very straightforward.
To get back to Keelung, take the same bus from the bus stop you alighted, it's a loop service.
This attraction is at the Northern Tip of the island.
Students with ISIC card get a discount for admission (NTD 40).
There's a beachfront swimming pool here as well.
Few tourists, here is where the locals hang out :D
If you stay for sunset, you'll be rewarded with a beautiful sight as the sun sets behind the mountains near Yeh Liu Geopark.

From Keelung center you can take a local bus to a bus stop in the middle of Heping Island and then walk 5-10 mins to the park. The ticket is cheap (60TWD = 1,5€). You'll mostly see local people instead of busloads of Chinese.
The rock formations are not as beautiful and interesting than those at Yeliu but the area is big and you can go wherever you want to (it's not restricted).
If you have some extra time it's a nice place to spend a few hours.

April 12, 2019; Heping Island Park (Peace Island Park). I went to the aforementioned Heping Island Park by bus 102 at 8:30. It took 20”. (I pay all of my charges with Easy-Card; buses, trains, if any, convenience stores). There are no bicycles to rent either. No-one speaks English in the visitors centre; other than hello, good-bye or? (Very little English spoken!) Why would they? I’ve seen 2 white people while here. Most of the tourists are Chinese or Taiwanese. The mountain trail is closed off, likely because it is military? You can only go soo far. Bummer! Then I had to walk cane back to see some temples; Tianhou & Tianxian. There are UP on the mountain/hill. The second one (Tianxian) is surrounded by temple gods/monks/priests. (See the pictures, eh?) I did not photo them all, but take my word for it! It was a loooooong day for me. I got back into my hotel at 14:00. It was a really nice day!

The concept of this park is so cool! There is public pool and it is not crowded at all. You get to swim with the fishes! It's so awesome if you come during summer! Recommended for families. It is not quite accessible though as the frequency of bus is quite long.
