Taiwan is a small island with lots to see. Many people would be inclined to hire a car and drive themselves, but this is not always a good idea in Taiwan. Taiwan is mountainous, it's topography is rarely easy to follow. Therefore, arranging a tour is worth considering. You can consult the friendly people at My Taiwan Tour Travel Services directly or arrange your own itinerary on-line…

I asked for a week-long private tour based on a couple of places I wanted to visit. Their itinerary was expensive (over US$400 per day), and light on activities (2-3 each day), but I trusted their knowledge and experience - of course they would have plenty to offer for that price. The tour guide/driver was really just a driver - after arriving at each destination, I would wait for him to start the tour, but he just followed me around, occasionally explaining some things very quietly and briefly. Communication was very poor, often with no explanation of the day's plan or even how long a drive was likely to take. After day two I stopped asking questions and changed my thinking, pretending that I'd only paid for a driver and not a guide, because I wasn't getting that service. When each day's itinerary was completed shortly after lunch, the 'guide' had nothing else prepared - not even suggestions. When I asked what options were available, he would silently play on his phone for 10 minutes then maybe suggest a cafe or maybe suggest I go and relax at my hotel. And even with so few activities planned, two weren't even available on the scheduled days, so the planning, preparation and execution were all poor. It was convenient to have a private driver with a nice, comfortable car, and the hotels were mostly nice. Maybe I was just unlucky with which guide I got?…

I went on this tour solo and was paired up with another solo person -- we both happened to be American and vegan by coincidence. No need to worry about finding food, though! Our guide Gordon had our backs. We ended up with amazing stinky tofu, an ai-yu drink, and tofu soft serve. The tea experiences were nothing short of heaven for someone like me who loves Taiwanese tea. We visited a tea master with a small tea museum, and went to a different tea house where we were taught a more stringent form of tea ceremony than the ones I'd experienced in Taiwan up to that point. All of that, plus seeing the tea plantation up close, was more than worth the price. Gordon was a fabulous guide, very knowledgeable and kind and had lovely conversations with us. It was a long day, but nothing felt rushed or not enough. Highly recommend this tour, and this tour company.…

It was a very enjoyable and knowledgeable tour with Jaron, he was very patient with us providing us enough time to enjoy the views and taking pictures up during our stop. He drove around introducing us the places left and right, not to say, he translated in both different languages without sounding in a rush. I had one of my most enjoyable time with this tour.…
