About
National Museum of History began operation in 1955. For more than six decades, we have been working to provide the most updated and innovative service. Beginning on 2 July 2018, the Museum will be closed for a complete overhaul for about three years. We will renovate and reorganize the museum building, service function, and administration. We aim to provide elevated and enhanced service quality and administrative efficiency when we reopen to the public. “See you again in a promising future.” We apologize for not being able to serve you and your friends in this duration.

The National Museum of History is one of Taipei's more interesting museums. It is housed in a building in the style of the Japanese colonial period (1895-1945). The museum was established in 1955, with artifacts from Henan Province, which is regarded as the birthplace of Chinese civilization. This is a fascinating museum, which is well worth a look. It doesn't have the depth of National Palace Museum but many items such as the Tang Dynasty horses with tri-colour glazes are unmatched in quality. By the way, the National Museum of History is undergoing extensive renovations and is expected to re-open in late 2021.

The National Museum of History was establised in 1955, the first history museum established in Taiwan. The building resembles structures from the Ming and Ching Dynasties. The Museum is in the Nanhai Academy, in the Zhongzheng District. The Museum is best known for its bronze sculptures and Tang Dynasty horses with tricolour glazes.

We spent 3 hours there and think that it is worth 300TWD fee. They have several sections and are divided into 3 floors. There're so many precious antiques for you to see and learn from the past generations. Pretty cool place.

My favourite thing to do when traveling is visiting museums. This one was very underwhelming. MInd you, most of the museum was closed off for renovations but what was open I found boring. The entrance fee was minimal, so I didn't feel gypped, but as far as history museums go, this fell short. I was expecting to learn about the history of the island and it's people and there was none of that. I actually don't really remember what was there, it was that mediocre.

This museum is often billed as featuring an art collection that does not have to fear comparison with the Palace Museum, so I decided to check it out. Imagine my surprise and frustration to stand in front of the entrance gate and read that the museum is closed for some 3 years of renovation. This was not advertised anywhere else, as in my view it should have...... disappointing. Fortunately the Botanic Garden and Nanhen Market are close by...

After walking a long distance to visit the National Museum of History today, I found that it was closed. I had even checked with Google this morning and they said it was open at 10:00 but when I arrived I found that it had closed in July 2018 for major renovations and is not due to open for at least another three years. I advise you to check with National Museum of History's website before making a trip to this museum, or, better still, telephone the museum and don't trust Google. Google have been informed but have not made the relevant alterations to their website.

It is definitely a must place to visit while in Taipei. The museum has great facility for visitor to enjoy and witness Chinese history aged as early as year 200 something.

Excellent. I was told, they have many artifacts, and rotates them for public to see. Go get an Audio Guide.
Go early, so that you avoid the tour busloads of tourists.

We sort of stumbled across this place while wandering the area from Chang Kai Shek Memorial Hall. What a hidden gem. The outside was really impressive. We wandered the gardens for a while, but the heat was too much for July. So we went inside. Nicely air conditioned and a great price for a family of 4.
We started on the top floor and made our way down. The Chinese scroll work, poetry, and different styles of Chinese writing were beautiful. They also had modern art was was interesting.
The main floor had a massive display of Chinese puppets. We could have spent hours looking at all the puppets. In this area they also had a craft for children where they glued tissue to paper. The people were very helpful and we left with a great souvenir.

*Be sure to stop in next door at the National Taiwan Arts Education Center. Items are all locally crafted IN TAIWAN. If you want to buy gifts, stop there.

Bit of a walk from any MRT, but easy to do.
They had a restaurant, but we didn't eat here.
many nice bathrooms.
Gift shop had high quality items. Very nice.
The outside is beautiful, be sure to take pictures in the gardens.

This museum has many interesting artifacts. It's well air conditioned once inside. The gift shop is great with a variety of items, my family members purchased many items here; book, two notebooks umbrella, statues, key chains and pens.
