Jerky and pork floss
Nov 2018
We asked our taxi driver where to buy pork floss and jerky and he brought us here. Loved the pork floss, they have several different flavors. We bought the crisy not to salty one.

Taiwanese version of pork jerky or "bak kwa"
Jan 2018 • Family
Another local delicacy that non-Chinese friends are not well acquainted with, but it's crazy popular especially among Chinese in South East Asia..... it's their hero product - pork jerky or more affectionately known as "bak kwa" in the Hokkien Chinese dialect. What makes them very different from the South Asian version is that they have two main varieties - the really thick and paper thin ones. The thick one is juicier while the paper thin ones are unique and have several flavours to choose from (e.g. original, spicy, almond, etc).

They have numerous outlets all around Taipei, most of them are huge standalone stores which also sell so many other dried snack products and they allow you to try all of them! We didn't go out of our way to visit one of their big stores, but instead just grabbed ours from their booth store at Eslite Mall's basement. Very convenient for us since it's situated right in front of the mall's exit to the MTR subway station so we could grab some just before leaving the mall.

Instead of just pineapple cakes, this was another product we loved bringing back to Singapore especially during the Chinese New Year period, simply because they're very much desired during the season and yet very different and unique compared to the local (Singaporean) variety. The foodie folks back home always love to try something new and exotic!
