Such a disappointment. Rushed around process- approx 3 minutes, asked a question and got an unwilling response from a less than enthusiastic staff member. No welcome drink. Quality of products on sale was terrible, the majority resembled old, unwanted or unsold junk.
There were 6 quality pieces, a cotton dressing gown, an embroidered table runner, 2 silk dressing gowns, a dress and a jacket.
Cushion designs look very ‘80’s.
Silk by the yard is expensive and the quality varied, you have to inspect thoroughly, I found a lovely colour of good quality but in inspection it had moth holes and a thread issue.
I left with nothing apart from dissatisfaction.
We watched 2 bus loads of tourists turn up and leave within minutes whilst waiting for our taxi (we had sent him away for an hour as we expected to be in there for at least an hour) they were not happy!
Can’t offer another recommendation for Silk in the area as I haven’t found any.

We took an e tuk tuk to go to Thai Silk Village. A good explanation about the life cycle of the silk worm, the waving of silk, the history of Thai silk and the colours used. After a short tour through the front waving department (for showing) we came into the shopping area. All sorts of scarves, skirts and traditional Thai clothes made of silk are being sold. Looks like good quality. I took a scarf and enjoy it every time I wear it. It is not cheap, but good quality is never cheap....

We hired a taxi to take us to Wiang Kum Kam (see separate review), and the driver suggested we make a detour to visit this place as it is en-route. We were initially hesitant as I'm sure the drivers all get a commission for bringing tourists there, and it was confirmed when we got there and bus loads of tourists were off loaded.

Having said that, the whole family enjoyed the visit. One one side is a hall where you can see the silk worms at various stages of growth munching on mulberry leaves and eventually turning into cocoons. There is a lady demonstrating how the cocoons are turned into bundles of silk, and there are a few old fashioned weaving machines with ladies weaving various patterns, all very educational. There is a vast showroom of silk items for sale: clothing, cushions, blankets, table runners, scarves, ties etc. There is also a small open air cafe serving local food, cakes and drinks at reasonable prices.

Kids loved it; the explanation about the full process could have been better and more detailed, but, kids didn't seem to mind that. The hands-on tie dye activity was a hit with the kids; the ladies who helped the kids with it were kind and patient. The store was a bit pricey; good clean restrooms in the store though.

We visited the Thai Silk Village because my wife is a seamstress and always on the hunt for fabric.
Our grandchildren and I looked at the live display of the life cycle of the silk worms and the process from cocoon to fabric.
We then each selected fabric for shirts and skirts to be made by “our seamstress “.
They also have a large selection of ready to wear items which enabled the grandchildren to select gifts for their parents.
We spent about an hour and a half there. My spouse was impressed with the quality and wide selection of fabric.
It was worth the time and a great stop for the whole family!

No doubt - they want You to buy some silk items. That being said it is quite interesting and we made some good bargains.

We were greeted at the door and given a tour of the factory (which is very small but still very interesting). Don't expect flea market prices here - you will pay a premium for fine quality silk. Also, don't expect that everything you find here was made here. There are quite a few printed silks that were clearly done in another facility. That said, I bought several meters of beautifully colored silk for a future project. My friends bought shirts, ties, scarves, and shawls for her friends back home and they were all beautiful and well-made. I would recommend this shop over the others that are heavily advertised - better tour, better products, better shop, and better prices.

While I liked the selection of silk items for sale, it was the silk production display and demonstration that caught my imagination. I found it thoroughly informing and a fascinating insight into the process and the history of the industry.

Lean about the processing of silk (from silk worm to the final product). Very informative and highly recommended. Highly quality items can be purchased - remember to obtain a VAT refund form in order to claim the VAT back when departing.
Time spent here depends on how much shopping you do!!!!

A very quick and brief show on how silk is produced was followed by being escorted round the shop. Expectation was on spending in the shop and it was difficult to browse with the assistant breathing down your neck, providing a running commentary. Don't bother unless you want to spend some serious money. Blouses and shirts started at $AUD100.
