Don't let the shrine's name fool you. It's not only a shrine for the military personnel but also civilians who sacrificed their lives. There's a changing of the guards, which is a spectacle. Many tour companies will bring tourists there to watch the event. The shrine houses the tablets of the martyrs' names. Unfortunately, we're not allowed to peek inside. The ground is neatly kept. I enjoyed marveling at the buildings. At one point, there'll be the playing of Taiwan's national anthem. Out of respect, please remove your hats and maintain silence.

People visit this shrine to see the changing of the guard. The Shrine commemorates those people sho died in China's 20th century wars. It is a solemn tribute. The changing of the guard occurs on the hour. It is a bit out of the way but the feng shui is good. By the way, there is usually a big crowd, so it pays sto get there early.

Interesting war shrine to the Chinese victims of war. Very moving. Reminds me of our own wall with the names of our Vietnam War dead inscribed on it. And the military drill precision team here was itself in its own right.

The mood is solemn as we visited this shrine. It is a good reminder to invest in learning history to avoid the mistakes of repeating it. Every hour you will have opportunity to see changing of the guard. This is a phenomenal sight to see.

The shrine honours the fallen war heroes from 1911-1949 and honour them they do in a grand way. The grounds themselves are large scale with guards positioned at the entrance and at the main building / monument. These guards certainly capture the attention as they have to stand motionless when on duty, after taking part in the hourly changing-of-the-guard ceremony. Watching this display is amazing as the guards march and 'perform' with their rifles with exacting precision. They alone make a visit here worthwhile.

The national revolutionary martyrs shrine did not disappoint. It was immaculately kept and watching the soldiers during the changing of the guard was extremely impressive. Every aspect of the shrine itself was a 5 out of 5! I would highly recommend visiting to anyone who is in the Taipei area.

The changing of the guards is impressive. The guards stand still for a complete hour in the heat and at the time of the change they do their flawless drill. You'll see the markings on the stone pavement between the gate and the monument (5 'paths', three from going to and five from coming back from the shrine). Watch the staff who make sure the soldiers pose is perfect, their uniform in the exact nice crease, ...). The guards become live mannequins for the next hour.
Shrine was under renovation at the time of our visit and hardly anything to see there. Visit around the hour, when the guards change.

Arrived in time to see the changing of the guard. This is done with the usual military precision but also with dignity and respect. The grounds are beautiful and areas are cordoned of during this ceremony. Like every country it's nice to know that these people who died for a principal are not forgotten.

It is very wonderful to see how the Guard's are marching from the temple to the gates of the Martyr's Shrine to do the exceptional Guard Change Ceremony. It is an amazing experience to witness the culture and the respect for the previous martyrs. From the way they march on the grounds, up to the time of exchanging posts, then the time they spent on their post without moving, is extremely extraordinary.
