The area
Address
Neighborhood: Banqiao / Zhonghe / Yonghe District
Banqiao district is the center of administration, shopping and transportation of New Taipei City, encompassing shopping, tasting local snacks, and experiencing traditional and night markets. Here is also the first choice of Christmas celebration in Taiwan- Christmasland in New Taipei City. Within this modern complex, a garden architecture full of Chinese tradition “the Lin Family Mansion and Garden” is hidden, complete with attics, pavilions and artificial mountains and fountains. Zhonghe and Yonghe not only have world class soybean milk, but also have places with a rather artistic lifestyle. Near MRT Yongan Market Station, there is the only old document repair book hospital in Taiwan - the National Taiwan Library Book Hospital bookbinding room. It has been here since Taisho year 4 of the Japanese occupation, which is extremely rare! In addition, the tiny crisscrossing streets of these two cultural districts still holds many interesting bookstores waiting for your discovery.

An old street in an old town
Oct 2021
Tamshui is one of the oldest towns in northern Taiwan, Until recently, it took half a day to get from Taipei to Tamshui. As a result, Tamshui has retained its character as an historic town because it has been sheltered from modernity. The Tamshui Old Street is much as it was 100 years ago. Tamshui Old Street twists and turns for around half a kilometer, with a mixture of ancient and modern. Tamshui Old Street can be very crowded, especially on holidays.

Good for snacks and souvenirs
Apr 2021
Up until fairly recently, Tamsui was an isolated community -- it took half a day to get there from Taipei. The town remains much as it was 100 years ago. These days, you can take the MRT Red Line and it takes around half an hour. The Tamsui Old Street is still largely intact, it twists and turns for about half a kilometer. It's like a time capsule. There are lots of snacks to try, and inexpensive souvenirs. By the way, the Old Street can get crowded, especially on holidays.

Small Seaside Port Town with charms to spare
Jul 2019 • Friends
I have to admit I am biased since I spent my college years in the area. This is the place calls me like a mother to her wayward son. Every time I visited Taiwan I just have to come again and again except I am no longer the crazed teenager any more. The streets still look the same even the railroad was replaced by MRT. What can I say, Tamsui was and still is a charming place.

People and food

Lots of people on a sunny sunday afternoon. The street is pretty long and lots to see. There are 2 sections - by the water and inland. Not a fan of street food, mostly fried and salted

Packed with people

Around 1km walk to taste local street foods and snacks, shops selling souvenirs, could not really enjoy taking pictures cause it's jam packed. Love the waterfront, best to go in the evening for the sunset viewing.
