Really, unless you have to go there, I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way. In certain areas you will be pestered non-stop to take a boat ride. In other areas, it is serene... however, rampant overdevelopment without any planning restrictions means that wherever you...More

A long trip to get there, but it was worth it. I don’t want to be arrogant but there are many places like that all over Europe but they miss the Asian touch. The weather is changing fast which makes it more special.

I won’t say the lake is stunningly beautiful but the atmosphere around it is good especially when you cycle along it. It was an interesting experience for my family especially at one point you come to a beautiful architecture (I forgot the name) and you...More

We stopped at this village, well, a street really, to get our first real look at Sun Moon Lake. It is very commercialized but interesting all the same. Our guide told us what were the local food specialities and we wandered around and I bought...More

Yes, there are a lot of tourists, but still a beautiful place to go to. I enjoyed the sunrise at 6am- watching the sky turn blue before sun comes up. The lake is much quieter then. Biking at least part of the bike trail is...More

Must be most touristy spot in Taiwan but we enjoyed it. Stunning lake beauty. Very interesting town and lake front to walk on (if a bit too commercialized). Try to ignore the crowds and take in the atmosphere. I did.

I had been there twice, many years back. This time would be my third. I felt the place was a little too commercialized. Our driver brought us to a ticket booth to purchase the tickets as there were a few cruise companies serving the lake....More

Beautifull lake, partially surrounded by bike/walkways. Pity they are not connected, some parts you need to walk on the street. Views are stunning. Walk around the lakes took me 27km and 5-6 hrs depending on your stops or visits of temples and towns.

Fresh air. The food was delicious. If you had the chance, you should take boat trip. Everything I saw was blue and green color, so that made me feel comfortable. The weather was cool. Moreover, I find it extremely enjoyable to witness an unsual scene...More

Which comes first? Yilan, Miaoli, SML or Taichung? (1 Replies)
Hi, I'm traveling to Taiwan in Dec. I wanna go Yilan, Miaoli, Sun Moon Lake, Taichung and Taipei. May I know which places I should go first and followed by which places. Taipei will be my last stop. Thanks for taking the time to answer my qn.

Hi, You should go in this order: 1) If your flight lands afternoon: Taoyuan airport > Miaoli > Taichung > Sun Moon Lake > Yilan > Taipei. 2) If your flight land early morning: Taoyuan airport > Sun Moon Lake > Taichung > Yilan > Taipei

Travel from Taichung to Taroko Gorge and Sun Moon Lake (2 Replies)
Hi all, Other than buses, how do I get from Taichung to Taroko Gorge and Sun Moon Lake? Is there any local tour package I can pick up from Taipei or Taiching covering Taroko Gorge and Sun Moon Lake? Many thanks for all your help.

Many thanks Nuttyazn, For your advise and the website link. Can I trouble you to ask for best option to travel from Taichung to Cinq Ching Farmstay in Ren-Ai Township, Nantou. We have a family of four and is thinking of staying there for a couple of days - any suggestion where else to visit nearby as we like the cool weather there. Would I be able to hook on to a local tour bus or need to drive (is it difficult?) or would you recommend a cab (any driver to recommend and how much...More

Sun Moon Lake enquiries (2 Replies)
Good day everyone, I would like to know more about Sun Moon Lake things to do. I am very interested on riding bicycle leisurely to enjoy the Sun Moon Lake view. Where can I rent the bicycle, how many hours and how much? Is there a restriction on the path for bicycle riding? Or just ride wherever I prefer? Is it worth doing the cruise too? Or just the bicycle riding? I only have a day spend at Sun Moon Lake. Thank you very much.

Yeah, I would like to do the cycling as well next time if I visit SML again. It is voted as one of the most scenic biking trail in the world! There is smaller route (12km) and larger route (30km). I took the cruise before and it is nothing much special.
