If you are here merely for the lake, I would tell you to not bother because the real beauty lies in understanding the biodiversity of this place. The lake itself is nothing special if you have visited many other lakes before. It looks just like a typical lake. It is actually a man-made lake that was made to supply the nearby population with water (in the past, couldn't really catch the owner's explanation). There's fishes and plants in the lakes which deserve a closer look. Dip your hand slightly into the lake and the fishes would come swarming towards you! DO NOT feed those fishes, it is against the rules! After the lake, do go for the hike up the mountains if you are capable of doing so. Not an easy path, all rocks and minimal stairs. There's a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains! If you go deep enough, you can even have a bird's eye view of the lake! Not recommended for young children and elderlies as the climb is rather dangerous and requires good footing or you might fall off. Do listen to the owner's explanation of the history and eco-culture of this area if you understand mandarine! You'll appreciate the trip here more. EXTREMELY inconvenient to get here if you do not own a car or do not intend to grab a cab. You have to take bus F910 from Xi Zhi Station followed by a 1 hour hike up. You can grab a cab and arrange for the return trip. Costed us around 400NTD for the trip up and we payed more for the return trip as the driver offered to fetch us back down at an agreed time.

The area
Neighborhood: Xizhi District
There is the mighty New Mountain, and the poetically named and fairy tale-like dream lake are favorites of travelers. Reputed as “ Sijhih back garden”, Dajian mountain blooms with different glamor with the seasons. Cyclers love to challenge Wuzhi mountain, reaching high and peering into the extensive and enchanting night view is worth an experience. In addition, maple watching sight “Gongbeidian” has a seasonal scenery with a valley of red maples. The rustic and elegant temple set off with leaves of red is a sight that cannot be missed. Besides natural sceneries, the traditional long street houses of Sijhih Old Street is also an important sight. Here was once known as “ The Street of Sijhih”, with a glimpse of past glamor still to be seen. There are many long-running stores still remaining, and is one of the precious cultural heritages of Sijhih.

去新山!?還是夢湖!? Go "New Mt."? or "Dream Lake"
Nov 2017 • Friends
“New Mountain” and “Dream Lake” are often linked together yet they are actually two different places sharing the same entrance.
So 300 Meter after entrance you may see sign for “New Mt. trail” on one side and “Dream Lake” on the other side.
Dream Lake (not as big as “lake”) is in fact private property. Landlord is friendly as to welcome any visitors. Good place for a short break or taking pictures. Make sure you don’t leave any trash/garbage here.

Road situation not very hood
Sep 2015
The road to the mountain and lake is under construction. Suggest to park the car about 1km away and walk up. Lake becomes smaller but still peaceful. Mountains with lots of tree down due to typhoon.

Beautiful lake, tough mountain!
May 2015
Lake is peaceful and beautiful. If you love to do tough trekking in 1 hour, this mountain is perfect! Probably not good for families with small kids but it's fine for kids over 5 years old.

Beautiful lake
Very beautiful lake, but we visit there in weekend, very narrow road to drive and so many cars!! Aside from the traffic, it is a pretty lake with a lot of live fish. Good for photo taking.

Quiet little pond
POND. Not lake. But fun for a professional photo shoot. Not too far out of the city.
