Taipei is not quite Tokyo, not quite Singapore, and definitely not Hong Kong, nor Shanghai.
SKM is a one of many shopping options at XinYi district and one of many department stores (there are Mitsukoshi locations around town, and a similar chain - Sogo)
This Mitsukoshi is a campus of 4 separate buildings A4, A8, A9, A11. Move between each building by walking across the plaza, above ground skywalk, or connect underground.
Full range of food ranging to quality food courts to fine dining.
Full range of clothing from casual to luxury.
Being a current Taipei resident, I can take my family here weekly or bi-weekly to walk around, kill time, get dinner. Environment is clean, comfortable, spacious, and I have a place to park my car. The place is large enough and close enough to everything that there' a lot to explore and things are constantly opening or getting remodeled.
A8 is my primary stomping ground because it has its own parking structure, a robust food court complete with juice bar, a Florida Bakery, with lots of seating and high chairs.
Rent a stroller for free from the 1st floor customer counter, take kids to outdoor playground on 4F & take a train ride, diaper changing room, breastfeeding room all on same floor. If you have kids, 5F will give you even more opportunity to kill another hour or two.
Downside is that often times, at department stores such as this, you are paying pretty close to full price if not always paying full price. For somethings, that matters, for others, it's not a big deal.
Neighbors within 5 minute walking distance include:
Breeze with multiple agnes b. branded stores, H&M, Eslite, Bellavita, Viewshow Cinema, Krispy Kreme, ATT, MRT Blue Line, Bus lines that run up and down Ren Ai, XinYi, ZhongXiao
MRT Red Line is a further walk. Taipei 101 is right above the Red Line.
It doesn't seem like there are many reviews about this place in English, so please, write me with any questions.

this is one of the most fabulous area in taiwan with various shopping malls here, but it has not only the luxurious stuffs but also has live street shows, or music performances, or local markets, etc sometimes. at the night time with the lights and people flows, it really feels special because it is still organized with many colors and things. there are many pubs, restaurants, cafes, bookstores, bars and so on that you can enjoy with. the traffic here is also convenient, with MRT or bus it is at City Hall Station, with taxi you can tell the driver to Xin-Yi district. if you want to see taiwan youth life and night life, this is a good choice to come here.

There are 4 buildings. The nearest train station is City Hall station. Lots of brands to shop. This place is well worth your time if you have a tight schedule. There are performances in the open area and a big Christmas tree. Loves the vibes here!

This is a massive shopping complex with multiple department stores and brands for many tastes. It can take more than a day to go through all the shops properly. The best part is the food courts at the bottom of each building. The restaurants on top are good but expensive.
The only thing is that the buildings aren’t numbered sequentially. You have A9 then A11 so it’s easy to get lost.

It can quite bewildering trying to shop here as there are many many different buildings with similar stores. But definitely worth it with eat streets at the bottom levels. There is also a LINE store, for those who are interested,

The Mitsukoshi mall consists of several low buildings named as A4, A7, A8, A9, A11 etc. They all seem to be interconnected by bridgeways so that it is not hard to transfer from one building to the next. However for first timers, they can get really confusing.
Once you get the hang of it, you will discover that each of the malls offer different categories of goods but almost all of them have good restaurant options.
Even if you are not the shopping type, it is very pleasing to walk around the general mall area where you can usually see street performers such as acrobats and musicians.
Generally a good place to stroll with friends or family.
