I stayed in Xinyi district when I went to Taipei. It was a fantastic area. There was always something going on. We liked to walk around the area at night. There were shops, street performance in the area. Doing window shopping in Taipei 101, and having a nice huge mango ice in Ice Monster was always a good thing to do.

The shopping district was nice during the day but it really came alive at night. Lit trees, giant screens, street performers...etc. Plenty to do after dinner.

Dear Visitors and Guests,

Taiwan, a small island of 23million people, has enjoyed prosperous economic growth during the 80's and 90's of the 20th century.

Nowadays, thought only a shadow of its past glory, still boasts as the most democratic place in the Greater China Alliance.

In Taiwan, you can say bad things about the President, without any repercussion. After all, the freedom to speech is a first, and Presidents in Taiwan are servants of the people (in theory at least).

The economy, though not nearly as high as the 10% growth in the 80s or 90s, still holds strong with its hardworking people and free flowing thoughts.

Politics in Taiwan is a mess, but shopping in Taiwan, is much cheaper than any first class cities in China.

Also, foreigners enjoy a 5% tax refund at the department store, or if you keep your receipt at the airport, you will get refunded on the spot.

President Tsai is no Chiang Kai-shek or Lee Tung-hui, but she is still the first female President in Taiwan's almost 70 year old history of democracy.

Please help boast our economy.

Thanks,
James

This is the largest shopping area in taipei. Not a street, but blocks of malls, so it’s confusing. Most of the luxury and mass market brands are here. Along with restaurants/cafes, cineplex, eslite bookstore etc.

If you are looking for international brands, Xinyi shopping district is the place for you. It is also Taipeh’s watering hole on weekends. I went there before on a weekday. The crowd then were mostly young professionals but on a weekend, seniors, families with young and older children are also enjoying the place. Almost all food and beverage stalls have long and winding lines. Business is really good on weekends. I admire Taipeh for having well disciplined residents. Despite lack of trash bins around, the surroundings are clean and well kept.

just be prepared with a fat wallet when you decide to come by this area because whether you like it or not, you’d be spending a lot if something caught your fancy.

this shopping district in xinyi has the vibe of opulence. it has high end stores selling signature brands located inside skyrise buildings.

there are also a lot of upscale restaurants nearby. and of course, they are a bit pricey. but there are likewise food courts that offer cheaper alternatives.

Weekend shopping in the Xinyi district is a great way to spend the day. Lots of department stores and great places to dine inside. In fact in the basement, some of them have a good food court. Most buildings are also connected helping to move from one building to the next... well connected by the blue line Taipei city hall station... great hotels nearby like the W hotel

The place to be for your high end shopping fix. 101 mall has all the worldwide designer brands. ATT4Fun/Commune A7 is a place where the young locals hang during their off time. You will find all the clubs and KTV’s around this area.

Beautiful area, all decked up with Christmas decor. Street buskers were performing and hence the atmosphere was rather lively - and winter weather is awesome! Perfect!

Nice play but very expensive boutiques. This is close to Taipei 101 and sun yat sen memorial hall. Go here if you want to shop for expensive brands.
