We're an Australian couple in our early 30s and this was our first trip to Taiwan. On the Must-Do List was the well known Elephant Trail (nearby). Luckily, a week out from the trip I came across a local blogger who recommended an alternative that was much less crowded that began at the back of this temple. WOW! - we couldn't believe how lucky we were to be enjoying such amazing views over the city including of Taipei 101. The trail was easy to find and well marked; it takes about 20mins to walk up, primarily stairs, to the viewing platform Tiger Mountain. From half way, there are already great city views and the stone path trail is very picturesque surrounded by forest. Throughout our journey we only came across 3 locals and another tourist couple on the way down. This is an absolute gem of a trail, and having Fengtian Temple to start was just icing on the cake.

As other reviewers have noted this temple has amazing multicolor ceramic ornamental details on the outside and ceramic murals inside. It is still a place of worship but visitors are allowed inside.

This temple is a couple of stories high. There are so many details to see, it is unreal. Much of the ceiling is carved-out lanterns. It is absolutely beautiful.
There are many opportunities for you to pray, and they do provide many items for this as well. It is very well thought out and visitor friendly. Staff/volunteers were all very friendly and helpful.
