The area
Neighborhood: Zengwun District
This district is the heart of the fertile part of Jianan Plain. The land is nourished and irrigated with water from Wushantou Reservoir, which is in the shape of a beautiful coral reef. Upon arrival at the reservoir, this masterpiece by the technician, Hatta Yoichi, comes into sight. Furthermore, since the ecology in the headwaters is well conserved, Guantian in the same area has become a breeding place for jacanas (tropical waders). People can easily catch sight of them fluttering around the fields of water caltrops. Madou is where the old-time Daofong Inner Sea (Lagoon) used to be, so traces of the down-to-earth old street and the port and quay can be found in the town. Daofong Lagoon Museum which resembles the Leaning Tower of Pisa catches people’s eyes, and the artistic atmosphere suffusing Tsung-yeh Artist Village in which the museum is located and the history of the town complements each other. The savoury rice pudding, a street food inside the markets, is definitely a must-eat for visitors discovering Madou. As for Siaying, its downtown area centres on a Dark Deity (a.k.a. Mysterious Heavenly Highest Deity) Temple. There are worshippers all year round. Next to the temple is a local destination famous for its village paintings, which combines Taoist temple culture and modern animation characters. The island-wide tea-smoked geese are the best souvenir for your family and friends.

The weather tower is one of the unique structures from the area when Tainan was the capital of Taiwan during the Japanese area. Just recently another Japanese structure made out of wood was rebuild next to it to make the site even more historic. Next to the tower is a bigger building with an exhibition on Meteorology (the weather). The content is quite basic knowledge and mostly valuable for kids. however, it doesnt harm for adults to refresh their knowledge on it and receive a few deeper insights. Its all nothing exciting, but if you are around this area with many historic Japanese Buildings, its nice for a visit. especially when you need some aircon

It has a lot of hands on exhibits. The children enjoyed the earthquake and the typhoon simulators. Takes about an hour to go through most of the exhibits.

My husband and I visited while it was displaced in the building next door so we didn't get the whole effect but it was very interesting. There are a lot of English signs so it was easy to follow what was being talked about/explained. The guide that was there that day was awesome! He kept apologizing for his English being bad but he was fantastic! I loved it! Would certainly visit again once it is settled back into place.
