The area
Neighborhood: West Central District/ North District
The West Central District is the most populous and the busiest area. A lot of shops and hotels crowd the district, and the long-standing history results in a variety of street food. In addition to that, this district also has the highest number of temples. This is how it got the name “Tainan’s Pantheon.” Historic buildings are literally ubiquitous. For example, Hayashi Department Store, National Museum of Taiwan Literature, Confucius Temple, Chihkan Tower (formerly Fort Provintia), Sacrificial Rites Martial Temple, Tainan Grand Mazu (name of a goddess) Temple, etc. Recently, the tourism in Tainan has laid emphasis on alleys and lanes. Examples include Fujhong Street specialising in creative handicrafts, as-you-stroll desserts on Jhengsing Street, Shennong Street lined with hundred-year-old ancient houses, Sinyi Street on which the old city gate stands, Sinmei Street where old and new cultures fuse together, and Guohua Street and Baoan Raod famous for all the savoury food. All the traditional and delicious food and flavours are about to burst in your mouth. The North District, on the other hand, is a quiet secret hideaway. Lane 321 on Gongyuan Road used to be a Japanese soldiers’ dormitory. Now a few artists have set up their studios here. There are diversified art styles in each old Japanese-style house. The Garden Night Market on Haian Road is one of the famous night markets in both Tainan and Taiwan, and was the top 12 Facebook check-in location worldwide in 2013.

2km walk from the Garden Night Market we came here and realised it’s just a smaller version of Garden Night Market with the variety you generally like in night markets between food, clothes and games.

We went to Garden Night Market but could only spend 1.5 hours here but found it enjoyable.

For Tainan if you have done Da-dong, Garden markets make sure you come here.

It’s also within walking distance to the old street which is not much of an old street compared to the ones in Taipei or near Anping fort.

Wusheng Night Market It has a variety of local street food to choose from, shops for all ages, and games for kids to play as well. It's very crowded night market in town.

Tainan is not a very busy city so the closing time is kinda early, which means after you finish walking the market, the taxi can be hard to find. So I recommend taking the number of the taxi driver that drives you there and call him when you want to go back. There they have food and maybe several other things such as shoes and phone cases and teddy bears. But the food there is great just that they don't really have place to sit being a market. Good place to go in Tainan

We were planning to go to the Flower Night Market, but unfortunately it was closed (it was December 31st). Thankfully, this was a great alternative and I guess it is not that touristic. There are hundreds of food stalls, and we were bursting to the seams after half an hour. There's a good array of vegetarian food including tofu, scallion pancakes and fruits. Wusheng night market is far better than the popular Shilin night market in Taipei, and much larger!

Unlike the night markets in Taipei, Wusheng Night Market provides fun and entertainment for the kids. The variety in food is not that great.

We were there at about 5pm and only 25% of the stalls were opened. Walked round and noted that most of the stalls were selling food. As we were traveling with our parents, we decided to call it a day and head back to the hotel instead of waiting for the rest of the stalls to open. Son commented that there is a good variety of food.

Has a great variety of food and loads of cheap stuff to get. One of the better night markets I've been to.

Go for the seafood stall, we ordered clams and oysters initially. It was so fresh and tasty that we ordered our second helping of clams and another dish of bbq prawns.

We had the Thai roti - banana and chocolate flavor. It was awesome! Would have gotten a second, perhaps different flavour, if our tummies had the space.

Bought tons of cheap pajamas at 100NT each! Material is definitely good for SG's weather.

Food is relatively cheap and lots of thing to see.
Tips: find stall with longest queue and the food is not disappointing

Like all Taiwan markets I have been everything is the same. Stall holders selling the same goods. Games for all ages and food section as usual. The size of they market is medium and only worth going f your near by or haven't been to any other markets yet. Easy to get to via taxi. There is always a taxi waiting on the side end of the market.
