I just finished a three day hike to Dabajianshan with Taiwan Adventures. It was simply an amazing experience. Our group was led by a knowledgeable guide, Ross - thank you! The timing of everything worked out so well and every detail was planned and executed beautifully. Even the deluge of rain couldn't dampen our spirits - it was an absolutely amazing trip and I highly recommend it!

We are a family of 8 who booked a hiking trip for Jade Mountain last June 4-6, 2024 with Taiwan Adventures. Started booking queries in Nov 2023 and Ross was so responsive and patient. He took care of all the permits, lodgings and our dietary requirements (vegetarians and Seventh-day Adventist). He picked us up with a comfy coaster from our hotel in Taipei (Green World Flora Annex). Driver, Mr Lee, was an excellent and careful driver. Alishan accommodations to acclimatize were superb and buffet breakfast was delicious. Although we were not able to hike Jade Mountain because of the landslide, Ross instead brought us hiking to the smaller mountains beside Jade, booked us accommodations at Sun Moon Lake, and brought us hiking again in the Great Mountain there. Ross was an excellent host and guide, indeed. Kudos to his Taiwan Adventures company and staff.

Joy,
So glad to hear from you and thanks for the kind words. You guys were very unlucky with the trail conditions but you all had such brilliant attitudes and took everything in your stide. It was such a pleasure to spend time in the outdoors with such a positive and happy family. Thanks again for coming and let's hope for better weather and trails next time

Taiwan Adventures were really fantastic. Our guide, Ross, was incredibly organised and knowledgeable about routes, required permits, and the status/ condition of open or closed trails. He was also highly adaptable when nature or weather disrupted our best made plans (which is very likely in Taiwan at certain times of the year).
We had full confidence in Ross, who was very safe and reassuring before and during the trip. He quickly adapted to our ability level, took care of all our dietary requirements (vegan) and provided multiple accommodation options tailored to our budget and desired level of comfort, finding some real gems in the process.
He’s also an excellent driver - this is not a given with guides!
Ross' Mandarin skills are excellent, making communication and navigation seamless, even though he's too humble to boast about it.
He's sociable and engages in conversation when you want it, but is also perceptive enough to recognize when you're tired and prefer to quietly march to the end of the trek. We really enjoyed getting to know him throughout our 5 day trip and were sad to depart ways at the end!
On top of this… he makes the best coffee and noodles we have ever had on the side of a mountain and takes awesome photos to remind you of your trip long after you've left.
100% would reccomend Taiwan Adventures and will definitely get in touch with Ross next time we are in Taiwan. It is such a beautiful country with so much to see and offer, and Ross’ guidance and advice was invaluable when planning our trip!

Tom,
Thank you so much for the review.
Had such a good time with you two and we really pushed a lot of things. I know the weather messed up some of our plans but I'm glad we got to spend some good time in the mountains.
Let me know when you're coming back!

Can't speak highly enough about the hike we did with Ross. We lucked out with the weather #win; but main share for this post is that anyone looking to Hike in Taiwan should know that Ross is a great operator and you will be in good hands!
My big ticks/recommendations cover:
* Saftey conscious (but pragmatic) - he knows the terrain, risks, what to do/wear etc.
* He organised all the permits, arranged accomodation pre hike, up the mountain, drove us there/back and his suggested gear list was spot on - everything we brought was needed.
* He quietly/perodically snapped photos so that, combined with our own, we have epic memories of the hike - way better than we'd have had on our own.
* Little (big) bonuses like some extra snacks and fresh coffee up the mountain(!)
* His years of experience showed out re timing (avoiding queues/waiting around), best places to stop, to get photos etc, etc.
* Was also great to discuss Taiwan expat life and general knowledge.
Can't recommend this company enough, was a superb trip and big hats off (and part of that success) was Ross' discretly guiding us up and down making it 10/10!

We (3 friends) undertook a hike with Ross to Yushan in August and had an absolutely stellar experience with Taiwan Adventures. Ross is a super experienced guide, who arranged every aspect of our hike smoothly. From the pre-hike guidance and advice, transfer, accomodation, meals & mountain guidance. Ross's experience in the mountains of Taiwan was clearly evident, he was able to share history, culture as well as providing us with valuable pacing advice to ensure we reached the summit safely and with fantastic memories. Ross knows where all the great photo spots are and how to bring out the best in the team he is leading.
Aside from the excellent guiding, Ross is also a top bloke to spend time with, great sense of humour and also took fantastic photos of us on the trail. We were stoked to travel with Taiwan Adventures and would not hesitate to trek with Ross & team again. An unforgetable experience, for which we are super grateful for sharing with us. Thanks!

What a gas! I can’t recommend Taiwan Adventures highly enough. Our guide Ross was knowledgeable, friendly and exceptionally prepared. The climb itself was the toughest I’ve attempted, so it was very reassuring to have such a professional guide.
Ross helped us capture some superb photos, and let’s not forget the freshly brewed coffee!
Very impressed! Thanks again Ross for such a memorable and enjoyable experience.

My friends and I did the 3-day, 2-night trek to the Xueshan summit with Taiwan Adventures, and the entire experience was seamless from start to finish!
Ross was an excellent and very patient guide, with extensive knowledge about the area and Taiwan as a whole.
He answered all our questions before the trek and made sure we were completely comfortable throughout. I would 100% do this experience again! :)

Professional, expert, friendly mountain guides. Taiwan Adventures handled every aspect of our trip up Jade Mountain from registration of permits, providing training advice, equipment rentals, pickup, and even lunch on the trail. I felt we were in safe hands. Plus they’re friendly, and personable which makes the adventure that much more fun. I appreciated the great photos they took along the three day excursion.
Can’t say enough good things about Taiwan Adventures service and knowledge of Taiwan trails. They are such a great resource that they make me want to go on more Taiwan adventures with them.

Just back from an incredible adventure to Snow Mountain led by a knowledgeable, attentive, and responsible guide - Ross. One of the top treks I've done to date, from the views, to the food, to the company - Taiwan Adventures really knows how to create memorable experiences. Highly recommended!

Just hiked Taroko National Park with these guys and they are good, really very good! Well organised, experienced and ready to tailor your tour to your wishes or needs without blinking.
Taroko has super scenery, hot springs, cold rivers, dark tunnels, historic attractions, uphills, downhills, plant, animals and more to experience and photograph.
Getting there on the MTR then bus then train then car ads to the adventure and exposes you to country Taiwan.
If you have ended up in Taipei on business, visiting friends or just on a whim then take a couple of extra days and book these guys, you are very unlikely to regret it!

Hi, I have been trying to contact Taiwan Adventures through their website on both phone and website, but on both it shows me "error" when trying to send a message. Is there an email I can use to contact you? I am writing from Canada. Thanks.

Hello,
Sorry about that. We've been under a email hacking attack for a few weeks now, and it looks like our email server finally gave up yesterday. We've fixed the problem, but TripAdvisor won't let me link to it in this response. Please just go back to our website and fill out the new form.

Hello, I will be in Cingjing from 16 Oct to 18 Oct, and I am thinking of hiking the North Peak Hehuanshan on 17 Oct. How do I get to the North hehuanshan starting point and do I need a permit? How long is the hike?

Hello. We will be in Taiwan in August for a little over 1 week. Is it possible to do a tour from Taipei down to Tainan then over to Taitung, up to Hualien, Yilan, and back to Taipei in 6 days? Or is that too difficult? If so, which cities / areas should we concentrate on? We are a party of four adults.
Written May 30, 2017
Hello, in general yes, but it is strong calculated. I personally recommend for Tainan at least over night and at least one full day or two. Enjoy the food in the evening! I do not have experience from Tainan to Taitung, but should take approx. 4 hours. From Taitung you can take train or bus to Hualien (3-5 hours). If you have a car, you can stop easily at the cost. I did it with bus and stoped three times. But this took me approx. 12 hours.
From Hualien you can take train to Yilan and train to Taipei.
It depends on what you would like to do there. The cities Taitung and Hualien are not special. Most people go there to enjoy the nature around, which could take some time more. I did delphin watching (1 day) and Hiking in Taroko (full weekend) in Hualien, enjoyed the cost from Hualien to Taitung (1 day) and the trip to the Lisong hotspring in Taitung (1 day at the weekend). Guided tours are available at weekends. If you have short time, a guided tour can help. For short time in taroko it is necessary. A train from Taitung to Taipei does take approx. 5-6 hours. I recommend to check the weather on the east cost for August. It is the rain and taifun season.
Enjoy Taiwan

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
