Bopiliao Ancient Street dates from the first days of Chinese settlement in Taiwan. The architecture is quite beautiful, it reflects the prosperity of this area of Taipei, in days gone by. The charming Bopiliao Ancient Street is not far from the pictursque Lungshan Temple, Taipei's most visited temple. By thw way, don't leave your visit to Bopiliao Ancient to late or all you may find is closed doors.

We went there after visiting Long Shan Temple, we just walked around and looking.. at outside since it was closed. The ancient street is one of the oldest preserved heritage sites in Taipei, the architectural is pretty good for photo-taking. The brick walls and wooden doors look so beautiful under the sun. It only took us 15 minutes to see it from outside.

The place is accessible via MTR. Bopiliao used to be a busy area during the ancient times. Good to take picture and to relax from the busy streets. With exhibits on the trading times years before.

Just 2 rows of shoplots with modern restorations. Went in 2 venues/studios. 1 had a display of ancient trading and tea processing but the staff could not speak any English to explain things. So you have to read the little description boards for each display. In the dim light, that proved quite a challenge.
The other was a studio with some native art, masks and maps. Couldn't appreciate it as the staff on hand spoke no English.

It may be ok just for a 10 minute walk through if you are in the vicinity. No more

Walked into this historical neighborhood after visiting Long Shan Temple. It was simple and well preserved.

This isn't a complete review, since we went there on Monday when the front side was closed. It's a little confusing because it has two sides: one fronting on Guangzhou Street, the other a walking street unto itself. The Guangzhou street side is mostly notable for the old brick construction, with some signs explaining the history of the spot where you are standing. It is an authentic historical street, related to the coal trade, dating back to the Qing Dynasty, but also including the Japanese colonial period, with preserved places, including a schoolroom, and a museum--and it's free. Another plus is its location: it's a short walk to the Longshan Temple and the Guangzhou Street Night Market.

Bopiliao Old Street is an easy walk from the Longshan Temple MRT station. We spent a leisurely two hours strolling among the buildings and viewing the exhibits which were well done and interesting. Perhaps more explanations in English could have been given though. Although the street opens at 9 am, the exhibits in the airconditioned rooms only open around 11 am.

Once you find the street, ensure you go through one of the buildings to the small street between the brick buildings. Very scenic, a few interesting things in some of the buildings.

Quite a small area with few blocks of ancient buildings. We took about 20 mins to finish walking around and taking pictures. Not bad!
