Taoyuan Valley Hike (Dali to Daxi)
May 2018 • Friends
We took Dali to Daxi trail instead of the other way around. This season is not too hot yet and the blowing wind is still a bit chilly so this trail is still ok for an early summer hike.

Take local train from Taipei to Dali via TRA Yilan Line, the trip is about 100mins.
From the train station, follow the signs to the Visitor Center. The trail starts beside the temple. This trail will take you to the foot of Caoling Historic Trail and instead of going through the winding service road, we took the Caoling Trail to reach the resting station which splits the trail to Fulong and Taouyan Valley. It took us 3hrs50mins to reach the summit.
Going back is not an option so we just moved forward.
In about 2km, we reached the T-junction and decided to take the Stone Guanyin Temple 石觀音寺 trail for our descent rather than continuing with the valley to Daxi Station because of time.
Sign says that's another 5.5km. The other trail is also `~5km but we think we can make it out in time and we did.
From the end of the trail is another 2.6km walk to Daxi Station.
We spent 6hrs40mins to finish the trail not including the time from and to the train stations. My Garmin watch reading is also 24km from temple to temple.
Before deciding to challenge yourself with this hike, make sure you are fit and have done walking for more than 4hrs. Bring water and food. There are no portable toilets along the trail.

Lovely hiking trail

The trail starts from Daixi station. The first part going up was a bit boring at first, with only stone steps and surround by the wood. But it gets better, first with lots of training to your cardio as you will find yourself going up for around 400ish meters straight. The view gets way better afterwards as you can see a clear outline of the mountain ridge and the valley , together with great skyline of the town from afar. For those who want a good hike, it is recommend to continue with the Caoling Trail and Caoling Historic Trail, and end up at Fulong train station, which you will further ascend to another peak (600ish meters) and finally some down slopes along the stream .
the entire trail from Daixi to Fulong (with three hiking trails involved and total elevation of 850m) takes around 18km. It might sound a bit demanding but the view you get will make it all worthwhile. By the time you reach Fulong, you can treat yourselves to some nice snacks and meals around the train station

Gorgeous Place...
Jan 2016 • Friends
This is a place that requires one to have awesome stamina... The shortest route up was a 1.2km hike up multiple flights of stairs of various steepness, through a forest. Others involved a 4 -5 km walk across fields.

The view is definitely worth it and you do feel like you are at the top of the world when u reach the top.

Do check for the weather before heading there if you want to prevent slipping and sliding on the wet grass and muddy plains.
