Worth An Hour to Take a Look
May 2018 • Friends
The boat trip and dolphin viewing to get to the island is the best part, but the island itself is also worth seeing. It has a small fresh water lake which makes for a scenic walk, and the millitary tunnels are intriguing.

Beautiful Island
Jan 2018 • Friends
I have lived in front of this island for almost two years. It is a real delight to wake up every morning in front of this beautiful island. It gives a meaning to life. It's difficult to explain... Out of curiosity, I took the boat once to see what was on it.

Honestly, it's not very interesting. There is a lake and you can walk around. Apart from that, there are only some abandoned Japan buildings. During the Japanese colonization, some people inhabited the island. There was a temple, a small Japanese school and several houses. The Taiwanese Government didn't maintain these buildings well. They didn't do anything. It's a pity... If you only have two or three days in this area, don't go. There are other things to do!

Guishan Island is the only active volcano in Taiwan
Jul 2017 • Friends
Foreign website "WHEN ON EARTH" has selected the world's coolest 12 natural islands, Taiwan turtle island because of the appearance of the turtle.

Guishan Island is the only active volcano in Taiwan. It is also the largest and inhabitant island in Yilan County. It is also a well-known sightseeing spot. Whale watching is popular with tourists. But it will only float and will not swim.

Turtle Island - Typical Taiwan Letdown
May 2017 • Family
I'm sad to say this trip just is not worth it. As much as I was looking forward to going, the typical, follow the tour guide, don't get out of line, nothing is taken care of, trash everywhere, just ruins what could be a really spectacular attraction on the north coast. Don't waste your money, there are other places on the mainland where you will find more freedom and just as much beauty. The boat ride is uncomfortable seating and really long, a tour guide talking the entire way, and the best part - seeing a large pod of dolphins, is saved for the last 10-15 minutes after an additional 30-45 minute ride out past the island.

Again, if the tourism agency gets its act together and really opens this place up for real business and tourism it will be awesome. But for now, just follow the leaders.

If you go:
Pack a lunch - nothing to eat, especially for kids
Take an umbrella, the guides avoid the shade like the plague
Take some Dramamine. The sea is rough and if you are even slightly prone to motion sickness, you might find yourself in a bad place pretty quickly.

Beautiful Coast
Jul 2016 • Solo
Check out the beautiful scenery out there. It is on the northeast part of Taiwan and it is less crowded and lay back than the big cities. Hope you like it.

Dolphin watching, 99.8% hit rate - must go
Jun 2016 • Friends
Guishan, literally means Turtle Island, is in the most northern water of Taiwan. The highlight is dolphin and whale watching. We cruised around the island on a 80-passenger ferry. The whole tour was about 2 hours. A tour guide patiently explained the history and characteristics of Guishan. We were a little bit skeptical in the first place as we have been disappointed in Hawaii and Maldives in dolphin and whale watching. But this time - hooray, hooray! It did not take much patience before the tour guide shouted " right side"! A school of playful dolphins surfaced in the water!Another playful school was racing against the ferry! We kept seeing schools of dolphins here and there in the remaining 45 minutes. Dolphin watching hit rate is 99.8% as published in the ferry terminal. Whale, perhaps, needs more luck! We saw no whale but no complaint! I also spotted my dear swallow friends in the ceiling. Swallow babies were impatiently waiting in the nest for food while the parents very busily discharged their duties of feeding the hungry tummies! Mother Nature has given us a lot! Very thankful for the blessing!

Dolphin Watch + Island tour
Apr 2016
Sea Sick peeps better get your meds ready!! I'm one of you :( but missus loves the sea so had to join the ride. It was amazing at the same time terrible for me... The amazing part was that we were so lucky that we had the chance to see the dolphin's up close... terrible is when the boat stops and the waves take control of the movement of the vessel. But anyways.... we had fun! eventful! also depends on your luck if you meet the dolphins. The Island tour was so.. so.. Up to each individual likings

The Island & Dolphins
Jun 2015 • Family
We bought a island trekking + dolphins watching tour package . It is really fantastic island . Worth spend about an hour to walk around with the guide . Old temple , old school , army fort , lake view ...all are so special to us . The boat ride also gave us really fun & excellent experience where we can watch hundreds of dolphins around our boat . Usually tourist will just arrange the boat ride for dolphins watching & round island . But I strongly recommend to spend some time on the island if time allow .

Nice boat ride

We bought a round island boat ride that take approximately 4 hours in total. However, luck is not on our side as we din't manage to spot any dolphin. Nice briefing of introduction and history of the island by the boat captain duh.

Fun
Oct 2015 • Friends
We set out from Wu-Shih Port. Regulations require registration in advance, so normally tourists resort to travel agents. The transfer of ferry took around 40 minutes. There were some remains respectively from the residential period and troop-ruling period. Not much to see, but we still had fun.
