Trip Highlight
Dec 2018 • Couples
Can't recommend this highly enough. As the title says, this has been the highlight of our trip to Taiwan.

We spent the whole morning laughing, cooking, chatting, learning and having a great time.

Calvin is a calm and flexible guide, who made even my own basic cooking skills looks great as we turned out 3 delicious courses! We sat down and ate together at the end.

It really felt like a visit with old friends. Don't miss this one

A Genuine Taste of Taiwan
Dec 2018 • Couples
By far the best part of our three day minibreak to TW was this home cooking lesson with Chef Calvin and Etienne. We were looking for some fun couple bonding activity - a rare break away from the kids - and my husband booked this for us. We wanted to learn a new skill and also experience something to give us more of a sense of what it's like living in TW.

Calvin was super well organised, while being really flexible in menu and timing. More than just the basics of how to put the dishes together we learned alot of micro tricks of the trade like how to most efficiently use knives for cutting and adjusting the recipes for different tastes. The food tasted delicious and I believe we will actually make these dishes for our family back home. Calvin did great at keeping our interest and not overcomplicating the steps or using very techinical language. This was important for us as we have someone at home who cooks for us, and have different skill levels for cooking.

Best part of all was the conversation and their openness to share their way of life in TW with us. Incredibly gracious and warm hosts. Highly reccomend! Thank you guys.

High praise for a fantastic day of food!

From breakfast before our market tour to the last bite of the meal we prepared together, my day with Calvin exceeded my (very high) expectations. Calvin was knowlegable, exceptionally well-prepared, flexible, and professional. I'm a chef myself and the class was perfectly geared to my level of knowledge and skill, and was fun and interesting at every turn. I recommend this experience for anyone at any level of skill, interested in a deeper understanding of Taiwanese cuisine. Many thanks Calvin!!

Wonderful Cooking Class
Mar 2018 • Friends
My girlfriends and I booked a cooking class with Calvin which included a tour of the local market in Beitou. Calvin was an excellent guide and we had a leisurely walk through the market, finishing off with a local breakfast of soya milk, Taiwanese churros and fried biscuit with scallions. We made soup dumplings, gyoza, boiled dumplings and hot and sour soup. Calvin’s a patient instructor and took his time to go over the ingredients, the different sauces and cooking techniques. We had lots of fun making the dough for the dumplings and we finally learned the secret behind making soup dumplings. We finished off with lunch and a lovely bottle of wine, we even got to take a doggie bag back to our hotel! We had a lovely time and would love to take another class the next time we visit Taipei.

Fantastic day full of energy, laughter and great cooking!
Dec 2017 • Couples
We met Calvin at the Beitou Market early morning, and enjoyed a fascinating walk around the local food stalls, trying fresh fruits and taking in the smells and sounds of the bustling market. Calvin was a great tour guide, and made our wander much more informative, as well as arranging for us to sample the delights of a traditional Taiwanese breakfast!

On to the cooking course, we loved the whole atmosphere of Calvin's kitchen, that felt both intimate and personal to our experience, with Calvin providing fantastic nuggets of information about Taiwanese food culture, as well as the cooking techniques and processes he guided us through. We had a great time making some pineapple cakes, and learning some new knife and pastry rolling skills as we prepared pork dumplings and pork bao (accompanied with a fantastically moorish pickled cabbage dish), along with a pork meatball soup!

Needless to say, after such an enjoyable morning of cooking and learning, we pigged on some devilishly delicious Taiwanese delicacies. Calvin's class was fun, engaging and informative! We had a wonderful time meeting Calvin, who is such a warm and welcoming host, and learnt so much about Taiwanese food culture too.

A thoroughly enjoyable day and experience that I would strongly recommend to all!

Just lovely
Nov 2017 • Solo
Calvin picked me up at the Beitou train station before a gentle, knowledgeable hands-on class where I got to pick three dishes (pickled cucumber, hot and sour soup, and dumplings) and practice everything from knife skills to pastry rolling before we enjoyed a fine feast. His friend Etienne took photos and did the washing up. Delicious, I learned a lot, and we had a lively conversation.
Later, I decided to do a Beitou market tour for an additional $600, which normally includes a typical Taiwanese breakfast. Yay!

Excellent Place to Learn Taiwanese Cooking
Jul 2017 • Solo
I had the best time cooking here, it being my first cooking class Calvin was sure to take the time to walk me through the ingredient prep and teach me the proper way to chop things. As for the food itself it was absolutely delicious, and I can't wait to make the recipes at home. One of the most interesting things was that instead of giving exact recipes Calvin would show me the basics and then let me decide how to season things based on personal preference. This will definitely allow me to have more options at home.

Great place to learn Taiwanese Cooking
Jan 2017 • Solo
Took the train to New Taipei area this morning for a special class with Chef Calvin. It is one of the best cooking class I attended here in Taiwan. The cooking station is well equipped and organized. Super neat and clean too. Calvin is a well trained chef and great instructor. He conducts the class in English and Mandarin. He explains every single tip and technique for each dish before we start cooking. His instructions are easy to follow. Do follow his instructions closely and a super yummy food will be your reward.

If you're looking for a hand on cooking class in Taiwan, I highly recommend this place.

This being my first cooking class I did not know just what to expect, but Chef Calvin and Etienne soon made me feel at home and I had a wonderful experience. I just hope I can remember all the bits of knowledge I learned. The real test will be preparing the dishes on my own at home. Thankfully recipes were supplied. The lessons were not rushed and there was time to enjoy the preparation as well as the finished meal at the end. This is on my list to things to do when I return to Taipei as there are lots of dishes on his menu offerings which I can try next time.
