The area
Neighborhood: Tamsui / Bali District
The enchanting Tamsui Old Street boasts the most beautiful Fisherman’s Wharf sunset of Taiwan. There are also well-complimented delectable snacks such as Ah Gei (bean curd) and fish ball, etc. On Bali left bank, there is the Ferry Old Street and Wazihwei Nature Reserve. It is relaxing and comfortable whether by strolling or cruising through on a bike. Besides the bustling business district, Tamsui is also full of an old vintage flavor. From western architectural relics to residences dating back to Japanese rule, each with their respective features and great stories to tell. If you visit Tamsui in spring, the magnificent cherry blossoms of Tianyuan Palace are a must see. If you wish for further intimacy with nature, why not camp out for the night under the starry sky. The Bali culture park camping site offers round, transparent bubble tents. Experience the close, seamless connection to surrounding nature from within for an unforgettable memory.

A pleasant leafy area for a stroll. It was interesting to see Oxford College and read the history of the area. We were fortunate to catch a pipe organ rehearsal in the church.

A short detour from the walk from Tamsui MRT to Tamshui Fisherman's Wharf will lead you to Aletheia University. Its origins date back to 1888 when Oxford College was founded on the site by Revd. George Leslie Mackay, a Canadian Presbyterian missionary who had arrived in Tamsui in 1872. The original building still stands, located amidst a picturesque garden. The imposing chapel of Aletheia University stands opposite this modest structure, providing a stark contrast between old and new. A statue of Mackay landing on Tamsui is nearby next to the river.

Well, the things that you can do here is taking photos as the architecture is western style. Besides that, there is also a small museum about the history of that place and its free. However, think twice if you are coming here in summer or begining of autumn because you have to climb a short slope to reach there and it might be exhausting to walk there in the middle of hot weather

Went there...and was greeted by many tourist...everyone is stuck outside the gate...not knowing what to do...

And travelling with old folks...had to climb this steep slope...hence didnt went ahead to climb....walked around the area...and left in 30mins..just total waste of time...

During the weekend this is a quiet and peaceful place not far from the British Consulate and Fort San Domingo. If you are around take the chance to walk around the university area to watch the nice architecture and to take some photos.

Aletheia University is an old private university in Tamsui. It is no problem for tourists to enter and walk around. The campus is like a park, and their buildings are somewhat European. As I visited, the semester had been over and no student was in campus. If you are tired of walking in Tamsui, it is a good place to take a rest.

We had heard much of the Canadian Mackay Family who came as missionaries to this part of Taiwan and helped to build what was originally called Oxford College Taiwan. Walking around campus, now a sports/Christian college is special. See the museum with lots of photos and authentic historical pieces. Good luck and enjoy!

It looks old and interesting really. You can just take a few snaps and go on. There's nothing else to do here than take a picture.
