Neighborhood: Sanzhi / Shimen District
Neighboring mountains and sea shores, the natural environment is beautiful with natural Baisha (White Sand) Bay formed by Cape Fugui and Cape Linshanbi. The coast is clear and shallow as a mirror with dunes dotting the beach. The uncanny natural sceneries are a result of early volcanic eruptions. The running lavas cooled to form the unique trench landscape of the famous Laomei Green Reef in April and May, within Shimen. The rock trenches are covered in green algae, forming breathtaking emerald green wonders and landscapes. Sanzhi, with its crescent-shaped beach coastal scenery, crystal blue ocean and clean white clouds creates a south island atmosphere unique to summer. Taste the delicious meals on banks in nearby feature cafes and enjoy the soft blow of light winds. Every year during autumn harvest, the “Water Bamboo Festival” is held for the Sanzhi feature farm produce. There will be DIY experiences, and kitchen events acting as a farmer for the day, not only getting to know the Sanzhi water bamboo but also tasting creative dishes!

Yangmingshan National Park (陽明山國家公園) is the third national park in Taiwan. It was established on September 1985. There are total of nine national parks in Taiwan. The 11,338 hectares (28,017 acres) Yangmingshan National Park covers Shilin (士林) and Beitou (北投) districts of Taipei City and the Tamsui (淡水), Sanzhi (三芝), Shimen (石門), Jinshan (金山) and Wanli (萬里) districts of New Taipei City. Erziping (二子坪) is located at the west side of Yangmingshan National Park and is about 27 km (16.8 mi) from Taipei Railroad Station. It located in the saddle between Mt. Datun's (大屯山) and Mt. Erzi (二子山). It is one of the most popular destinations in the park.
We live close to the national park and it takes us less than an hour to reach this amazing natural resource. We visited Erziping at least 6 times during the last 10 years. There is a small information center and a barrier-free toilet right in the entrance. Starting from here is the one of a kind 1.8 km (1.21 mi) Erziping Trail which lead you to the Erziping Recreation Area. I have never seen a mountain trail classified as a barrier-free trail before, but it is a real barrier-free trail where you can use both strollers and wheelchairs. We saw elders, passengers with limited mobility, and babies join us on the trail to the recreation area. There also an elevated wooden path that allows us to get closer to the woods to discover the wildlife in the area. Waking on the trail is quite comfortable even in the hot summer day because we actually walk under the shadows of trees. At the end of the trail is the Erziping Recreation Area (二子坪遊憩區). It is a open grassland with ponds and some pavilions. People may play, have picnics on the green, bask in the sun, or enjoy the scenery. It is the best place to see a variety of butterflies, dragonflies, birds and insects. It is also a popular location to observe the beautiful Taiwanese Blue Magpie (藍鵲).
You can take city bus 260 from Taipei Main Station (railroad station) to Yangmingshan and take the shuttle bus 108 to Erziping. There are no shops or vending machines beyond the entrance. Be sure to wear a comfortable shoes and bring water with you especially in the summer even though it is an easy hike. The parking lot used to be free, but it became a toll parking lot the last time we visited. The parking space is limited so be sure to visit earlier in the day.

The path from the line 108 busstop to Erziping takes less then 30 min in a gentle stroll. Both the path and the destination are not very spectacular. But if you feel like hiking you can proceed to Mt. Miantian. Which is a true beauty. Fascinating with its dense jungle on one flank and the grass on the wind side. And you get some great views as well. The round trip from the bus stop via erziping took me about 3.5 hrs. Without breaks but also without any hurry
