Neighborhood: Tamsui / Bali District
The enchanting Tamsui Old Street boasts the most beautiful Fisherman’s Wharf sunset of Taiwan. There are also well-complimented delectable snacks such as Ah Gei (bean curd) and fish ball, etc. On Bali left bank, there is the Ferry Old Street and Wazihwei Nature Reserve. It is relaxing and comfortable whether by strolling or cruising through on a bike. Besides the bustling business district, Tamsui is also full of an old vintage flavor. From western architectural relics to residences dating back to Japanese rule, each with their respective features and great stories to tell. If you visit Tamsui in spring, the magnificent cherry blossoms of Tianyuan Palace are a must see. If you wish for further intimacy with nature, why not camp out for the night under the starry sky. The Bali culture park camping site offers round, transparent bubble tents. Experience the close, seamless connection to surrounding nature from within for an unforgettable memory.

Theater in forest
Jul 2019 • Solo
Cloud Gate Dance Theater is actually not far from Tamsui downtown, but it is hidden in the middle of forest, not many tourists visit this place. The terrace in front of the theater is a good panoramic spot. The statues of a family sitting at the table are remarkable.

A hidden gem in Taiwan

Go for the peaceful location, the architecture, and the amazing contemporary dance.

I was having trouble with their website from the states. The staff took such good care of me, made sure someone was there to help me at the ticket window, and checked on me after. It was worth a flight around the world to experience.

Beautiful spot

Beautiful transformation of a former radio station into dance studios for Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, a theatre, gallery, outdoor exhibition and more. Open daily. Free. Nice walk along the river from town - although then up the hill (do drop into the lovely Peace Park and interesting Hobe Fort (free) on the way. Alternatively, bus 836 from Tamsui bus station (destination Fisherman's Wharf) drops you at the top of the hill.

Beautiful Place!

Personally, this place is the highlight during my visit to Taipei.

Being a huge fan of Cloud Gate Dance Company for years, I could not wait to visit this new theater/cultural park on my trip to Taiwan. The park is located on the top of a small hill next to the historical Hobe Fort in Tansui, overlooking beautiful Tansui River and Guan-Yin Mountain. The whole park is built on a huge lush lawn, with the main theater building sitting in the middle with its unique architectural design. You can go inside the building and look around the exhibitions in the hallway for free, and even have a peep inside the theater if there are performances going on (tickets required, for the performance, of course).

My favorite part of the park is outdoor -- the huge lawn accompanied with the long stretch of stairways leading to the theater building frequently serves as the stage and backdrop for Cloud Gate's outdoor performance. There are brass sculptures scattered in the park from the famous Taiwanese sculptor Ju Ming. A beautiful water lily pound sits right next to the café where you can get refreshment and souvenir.

Driving to this culture park is preferred; however, you can also get here by using public transportation. Friends and I took Taipei MRT to Tansui terminal, then transferred to the local bus that dropped us at the bottom of the hill - it's only a short hike to the park (probably 10 minutes).
