Worth a visit if you're in the area.
Jan 2018 • Couples
You can get here by local bus which seems to be very much on time when matched with the schedule we got from our hotel. One trail was closed for seasonal maintenance - to a waterfall - but there was penty of hiking to do regardless. Beautiful butterflys, trees and trails, very steep in places but i did them in Tevas, my wife was in runners. Take food and water for lunch if you plan to have a picnic. No food on site that we saw bot some spots nearby outside the entrance. .

Excellent park
Jan 2017 • Family
A good complement to a trip to the local spas, the park is maintained beautifully and I had a lovely time with my family.

Zhiben (or chihpen) national recreation area Is closed, some people told me it's opening in september, if you (like me) come here and see the gare closed, you can have a walk to the nearby waterfall, or soak in the several hotspring downhill.

Good springs, but forest park closed
Sep 2012 • Couples
The springs were good, (apparently it makes the skin really smooth!), and I definitely recommend the Custard Apples you can buy along the way. Keep one in the fridge, then scoop the meat with a spoon - absolutely delicious in the heat of summer! Forest park was closed when we visited on 09.11.2012, so that was a disappointment.

Chippen of a forest park and the hot springs
Jan 2012 • Couples
Two Chippen attractions draw tourist groups to make it popular. The hot springs have become too touristic, and in the evening there are night markets to entertain tourists just like in the cities.

The (Jhihben) national forest recreation area, on the hand, offers a little surprise.

The park's sights are one level below the national park level, but phytoncid is abundant.

Overall, Chihpen experience is just OK for me.

National Forest Recreation Area
Dec 2011 • Couples
Also called the Jhihben National Forest Recreation Area. We spent a most enjoyable few hours at this park. It was very quiet, just a handful of visitors (not a weekend). There are a number of different walks to suit everyone. We did all of them starting with the aptly named Brave Man’s Trail - 900 steps up a steep slope. Beware, just when you think you have reached the top, this trail joins the Banyan Shaded Trail and continues going up and up. Don’t know how many steps we climbed in the end but we were mighty glad to reach the top and start going downhill!! Both trails have amazing trees – huge old Banyans and stranglers. Quite incredible. We then took the forest trail which clung to the side of the hill. A very attractive trail right in the woods and easier than the other two. We finished up on the easy Scenic Trail which stays low and takes you past the visitor centre and other attractions including the delightful creek massage pool. It was so nice soaking our tired feet in this pool which I would describe as a tepid spring. There were lots of beautiful butterflies around. We also spotted birds and monkeys. We truly enjoyed our trip to the Forest Recreation Area and highly recommend it. There are toilets there but no food so come prepared. It seems that twice a day there’s a video presentation about the place. As we were walking along, there was a sudden blast of music and an announcement about it from a nearby loudspeaker in the middle of nowhere! Rather amusing.
