Good food, bad traffic.
Jan 2020 • Solo
This street food night market straggles for several blocks along Zhongxiao Road, which is not closed to traffic. As the stalls front on to the road you are forced to walk uncomfortably close to the traffic. There is a good selection of different foods available and prices are cheap. English is notable by its absence. A few stallholders will try to help in broken english, otherwise a knowledge of chinese is very useful.

Spread our night market - lots of cuisine types
Feb 2019 • Couples
Spread out night market along Zhongxiao Road, running both sides of it (watch out for errant mopeds) - lots of cuisine types available including local, Japanese and even a pizza stall. Most stalls are quite small so there are considerable queues for the really popular ones.

Local Experience
Dec 2018 • Friends
This night market was about 10mins walk away from our hotel, and we decided to try it out for dinner. After experiencing 逢甲夜市, you will definitely feel that this market is smaller and has a limited selected of foods available.
Nevertheless it is delicious, I especially love the roasted corn!
One thing to note that as it is catered for locals, you will see many Taiwanese scooting away once their food is prepared so one has to be aware of the traffic!

A small night market
Nov 2018 • Friends
This is a relatively small and simplistic night market. Feels more local rather than one catered for tourist.

Not as good and others are better

This really is more of a street market and it is not cordoned off so less comfortable.

It is also much further than the map suggests from the train station.

It’s about 5 stops away from the train station and you need to have energy if doing this night market with kids after a heavy afternoon.

Following consideration this night market could be missed and Yizhong street market offers more choice and variety along with safer environment for kids.

We took bus 33 from Gong guan road which is the other end of the market after walking from Taichung road.

Don’t forget rides less than 10km are free but use an easy card!

I’d not come here again

可麗餅!
Sep 2018 • Friends
昨晚跟朋友到忠孝路夜市,看到賣可麗餅的攤位,好開心!我不想吃油炸食物,所以到夜市去時,選擇不多。
I visited Zhongxiao night Market last night. I was pleasantly surprised to see a stall selling crepe. I try to avoid eating fried food if I can. However, most night markets sell mainly deep fried food. Other than crepe, there were lots of traditional local food worth trying.

Unfriendly services with not-so-many choices
Apr 2018 • Couples
This night market was not far from Taichung Railway Station with less than hundred stalls along street. Most of them was selling noodle, it was really hard for us to find something to eat as we both didn't like noodle. Price was cheap, just as other night markets in Taiwan. Services were quite bad with no one was speaking English, and two shops refused to serve us once they knew we were foreigners who could not speak Chinese/Taiwanese. Such a bad experience to us in Taichung!

Small night market but with good variety of food
Mar 2018 • Couples
Zhongxiao Night Market in Taichung is a small night market located at Taichung Road, about 15min walk from Taichung TRA station. The night market only sells "buy and go" street foods ( not like those night markets in Taipei which also have stalls that sell accessories, clothes etc). Only the bigger stalls had tables for customers to sit n eat.

A good place if you want to experience a night markets and local foods. Foods are mostly local like the "crispy chicken", Fries, braised food (tofu, pork, duck blood etc). The taste of the braised food are different to those in Taipei.

But beware of the traffic when you are going round, as there are a lot of electric scooters and cars moving around the streets and many parked around the stalls.

Good food just 15 min walk away from Taichung Station

Zhongxiao Night Market is one of the few night markets I've visited in Taiwan where the road is not closed off to traffic. One must be watchful of the vehicles (although they tend to go really slow on this street) while looking at the decent variety of food available. From Taiwanese traditional food to Turkish Kebabs, to Vietnamese bahn mi and Japanese sushi, there's something for everyone.

Would highly recommend a bowl of beef noodles from one of the stores, which is a family-run business. It's near the junction and can be seen in the photos below. Really enjoyed it at an affordable (80 NTD) price! Would also say this place offers something different compared to the touristy Feng Chia Night Market - a quick 1 hour should do it, without any pushing or rubbing arms with other sweaty patrons.

Much more convenient than fengjia
Apr 2017 • Solo
If you came to taichung for more than shopping and eating, and you are staying near taichung train station, zhongxiao is a much more convenient night market than the more famous fengjia. About 20 minutes walk from the train station, it spans just a few blocks but has enough seafood, chicken, beef etc dishes and snacks to choose from.
