About
Jao Ho Street has become a secondary road and the business has also declined. Therefore, the government set up a night market in 1987. It is the second tourist night market in Taipei.

This is one of the better street markets in Taipei, as well as more easily-accessed. The MRT Green Line - last stop Songshan Station - exit 5 is the closest. When you get to the street level of this exit, the market is literally half-a-block from there. What I consider to be the 'must-get' at this market are the Fuzhou pepper buns. This vendor will be right at the entrance to this street market. If you go early - the market opens at 5pm - you will have minimal wait. If you go later - I would say anytime after 5:45pm - you will have a rather-long queue for this unbelievable tasty item. Highly recommend.

My wife and I enjoyed our visit a lot. We went on a Tuesday night and the place was quite crowded. I imagine it gets really packed on weekends. We had the famous pepper buns that are at the beginning of the market. The line wasn’t bad and they were delicious. We sampled a number of other dishes - most were very good although some were a little plain. Lots of options though. Half the fun is the experience- it’s a high energy place with lots going on. We took a nonstop subway train from Taipe station - very easy and quick. The Ciyou Temple is near the entrance to the market and is worth a quick visit. I would rate this a “must see” for Taipei.

We had so much fun and lots to explore that we returned in our short trip to taipei twice to see the raohe night market! The first day, the weather was great, but it was packed with people, and it was very difficult with a baby stroller to get around. Our baby stroller Especially is big, so we had no chance to see everything and only passing through the whole street, which is almost a 30-minute walk. 2nd night, it was raining, and it was amazing! We got ourselves rain coats and walked through the market, enjoying everything we could get our hands on. The food is affordable and great! We also got lots of souvenirs for family and friends.

This was our first stop after landing in Taipei. It was fun to walk thru the market and see all the offerings. Yes, the pepper buns are worth the visit! Delicious. Also, the massive chicken fritter is really good. Tons of stuff to try. We didn’t really allow enough time to take it all in since we got there around 10pm and it started raining, causing things to close up early. But, highly recommend.

I often come here because it is a short MRT ride from Zhongshan district where I often stay. It was around 20:00 on Friday, and although there were many people, it wasn't very crowded, so I went around to various shops over Fuzhou pepper cakes that I bought near the entrance (60 yuan). It is certainly difficult to walk, even if it is not very crowded, because the passage of this night market is narrow as well. There are many people who eat on their way around, so it was my usual walk, thinking I wouldn't like anything on my back. I am not interested in the miscellaneous goods, smartphone goods, clothing, etc. that are sold at night markets, but I am looking around, including at food stores, like window shopping. It's fun no matter how many times I go. It is also very convenient to visit because it is very close to MRT Matsuyamamaki.

Great food - our favourite is the Fuzhou pepper cake which is near the entrance. Easy to spot due to the queue of people. Lots of food stalls - so much choice - our favourite night market in Taipei. Be daring try the stinky tofu. Easy to get to via the metro - Songshan station the 5 minute walk. We got there at about 6 pm - not too crowded but by 7 pm lots of people are arriving. If you love food - this is a must visit when in Taiwan.

Take the MRT Matsuyama Shinten Line to Matsuyama Station, the last stop. There is an entrance to the night market just off Matsuyama Station. I thought it was one of the largest night markets in terms of scale, running more than 1km east to west. Besides restaurants, there was a wide variety of sundries on sale.

We visited the Raohe night market on a Friday evening and it not disappoint! You can find anything from sausages, seafood, fruits, dessert to souvenirs! Food wasn’t overpriced and the vendors spoke some English. We took the Green Subway line to the last stop “Songshan”. Market is right across the street from the Subway stop. Would definitely stop by again for the food & fun experience!

I went to Raohe Street Night Market, one of Taipei's representative night markets. There were a lot of people starting at the entrance, but instead, there was a straight line so I didn't have to worry about getting lost. There were so many different types of food that it was fun to see and it was nice to be able to eat a lot of delicious food.

Full of colour, aromas, trinkets and great food. It’s almost difficult to spend money here. Couldn’t believe how cheap it was to check out the local delicacies and drinks. Took a long walk from my hotel to visit here through all sorts of areas. I felt incredibly safe and secure every step of the way! Testament to the very friendly and welcoming Taiwanese culture. I had to check out the snake, duck neck, fish cakes and other bits they through in a bag for me. Not sure I know the identity of everything I consumed, but it all tasted good. Full of light and character working my way through the hustle & bustle to come out at the other end on the doorstep of a temple. A great night that I’d love to repeat touring with family sometime in the future.

One of the more interesting night markets in the city, with lots of good eats, including several Michelin gourmand stalls.

The black pepper beef buns are the most popular, with long queues that go pretty quickly. The buns cost $60 each and are delish.

You should also try stinky tofu, shaved peanut ice cream, sesame oil chicken and oyster vermicelli

Great place to experience a night market. To be fair, this was the only night market I went to so cannot compare to the many others Taipei has to offer but had a great time here. Went via MRT (Songshan station). There are signs for the Raohe Night Market from the station so its easy to find and once you get out of the station, you will see lots of people making their way to it. You can't miss it. It's basically one long street with street vendors and shops. I went primarily to eat and was not disappointed. I tried a lot of things but I think the fun part of the night market is you can sample all kinds of Taiwanese (and some not so Taiwanese) foods for not a lot of money. Many places only had Chinese menus but most are making the food right in front of you so you can kind of tell what they are making and just point to what you want if you don't speak Chinese. The people working at these vendors were generally very friendly so don't feel intimidated when ordering. It can get very crowded so just be prepared for that. Highly recommended.

A smaller night market and not as famous as other tourist night markets, but authentic and frequented mostly by locals. The focus is on food stalls. Our favorite was a type of crepe filled with vegetables (vegetarian) and freshly made on the stove top and also very cheap. This stand was unique and stood out from the rest of the offer, which was partly franchising and could be found at all night markets in Taiwan. A visit is worthwhile in any case. We took a cab from the hotel to the market, but for the return trip it was quite difficult to get a cab. But there are also local buses that leave near the market.

Everything looked delicious and I enjoyed it.
I wanted to try the famous dishes so I bought too much and couldn't finish it all so I brought it back to the hotel.
The pepper bun shop at the entrance had a long queue so I gave up and bought some on my way out.
Late in the day it's empty and easy to eat.

It is one of the most well-known night markets in Taipei, and is easily accessible as it is close to the station. Therefore, it tends to be crowded, but perhaps because it was rainy on the day, it wasn't that crowded and was easy to walk around. It has a simple structure, making it easy to eat while walking around.

Shilin is apparently the main one and biggest one, but I preferred this. This is one of the oldest night markets I believe in Taipei. Raohe Street Night Market had a nicer atmosphere, it was less crowded and there was more variety of food to feast your eyes on. By variety I don't mean more stalls but more options. Shilin became a little repetitive. Easier to navigate and not as big as Shilin. Vendors are very friendly and nice. If you are Muslim like me or vegetarian, make it clear as a lot of the items contain pork. Go with an empty stomach and small change! Shilin had a lot of clothing stalls as well and places where you could play games. Here there were a few places you could play games and shops where you can buy gifts. I went around 19:30 on a Wednesday evening. I believe weekends are really packed. Walk, eat and enjoy. Taiwan is very safe but as you are tightly packed with loads of people, like anywhere just mind your bag. Clean.

We went for a wander here one night. It was fine, but we didn't love it. It's a fairly small night market and we walked through it pretty quickly. There is lots of street food and some cheap plastic junk to buy but that was about it. The most interesting part of this night market is the very ornate temple near the entrance.

Located at the Songshan Station (MRT Green Line last stop), the Raohe Night Market is literally right outside the MRT exit.

One of the very first stalls is the popular pepper pork buns. Go for this right away, regardless of how long the line is. You can see them preparing the buns right in front of you while you wait on line. They then stick the raw buns onto the sides of the cooking kettle. Very delicious; two would probably fill you as a meal.

Lots and lots of vendor stalls as you wind your way through these long streets. It's pretty much one-way traffic going one way, you finally reach the other end, and then one-way traffic going back on the other side (with different vendors). It can get extremely crowded at this popular night market - that's why I suggest you just get something if it appeals to you; you won't be able to make it back to that stall easily. I like the variety at this night market over the Shilin. Give it a try.

Located next to an attractive temple, very ornate and well worth a look in. Supposed to sell the best pork pepper bun for $60 Good if you like pork, pepper and bread. Other types of tidbits and foodstuffs also available, freshly cooked or made etc. A few games stalls too. May struggle to find a parking space.
