The Songshan Ciyou Temple is right next to the Raohe Night Market. My main goal was to visit the market, but I saw this temple and could not just walk by it. This temple is huge and so decorative and colorful. I love how detailed the roofs and architecture are of the temples in Taipei and this was among my favorites. I saw both locals and tourists here, it was nice to see how respectful and quiet everyone was. You can take the green line to get close to the area. There are many other attractions and shopping markets in the area. Highly recommended!

This temple is absolutely beautiful and worth visiting. It is located by the east entrance of the Roahe Night Market. I love the intricate and ornate carvings. The locals are very nice and we were welcomed to explore.

The temple is a fascinating place to sit down, feel the spirit, pray and express wishes. All kind of people, locals as well as tourists, pass by. They express their wishes by lightening incense sticks and throw (wooden) dice to see if they‘ll be lucky. Taiwanese pragmatic way to things is shown in the way offerings are done. They are put on a table for the goods and recollected once people leave the temple.

I always love to see the local people and enjoy their daily life when I travel to a country. It's better than go to a tour area. Temples are the best view of Taiwan.

The stone carvings on the wall was magnificent. A great view of the streets fro the upper level. It is worth the visit. We had a guide and learned so much regarding the culture and taoist practice of Taiwanese.

Happened upon this when visiting the night market, a very striking temple, especially when its uplit in the evening. I didn't know it was there and pleased that our whistle stop tour of Taipei included a temple too!

This is a beautiful and underrated temple!
Right next to one of the gates of the Raohe Night Market, it looks beautifully lit at night and it equally enjoyable during the day time. The temple has stairs to access the multiple stories. I heavily recommend going up those, the view gets better and better and you get to see the artistry at each floor.
Intricately carved, in a mtitude of colours and heavy detailing - thia temple is a delight.
No entry fee, you can buy some offerings, use the praying wooden blocks for free (Ofcourse!).

Over 250 years led, this multi-level temple is a bit different in that it is not always asking to buy the incense and candles, you can donate or not. Worth the visit. Plan for one hour or so.

Even if you have no intention of going to the Raohe Night Market, it is worth taking the green line to its eastern terminus to view and visit the beautiful, colorful Songshan Ciyou Temple to admire its mosaic-like decorations.

It is a temple at the entrance of Raohe night market, and I happened to visit when I went to the night market. As its illumination was very artificial, and there was a mass crowd of the market nearby, it was like a day of festival. There were also many tourists visiting.
