Last stop of Jiji line
Jan 2019 • Solo
Checheng is the last stop is Jiji line. The area around the station is transformed to a park, in which the signal tower and other railway related constructions are conserved. It is a nice destination for a day excursion from Taichung.

Definite Visit.
Oct 2018 • Family
My family loved this place and thought it was more interesting than Sun Moon Lake itself. There is an area to feed fish for 10 NT, logging museum, Cardboard shop that sells all sorts of things made of cardboard include a train and if you buy something more than 150NT you can a free train ride on a small train. Moving down the slop the mountains cover this area and the old train station and trains on the tracks are there making for a great way to spend capping off sun moon lake.

It's a must if going to Sun Moon Lake as it is more interactive and stamping here for the kids too. We would visit this again if we had the chance and spend about 3 hours enjoying the area.

rustic place that used to be an old railway station
Oct 2017 • Friends
Was there for a stop-over when we were travelling from Sun Moon Lake enroute back to Taipei. The place is like a small village with some touristy spots. Liked the old train and tracks that are still there. Good for photo-ops.

There are shops that sells local produce such as sour plum and these were good. Many flavours to choose from.

There is a cardboard king cafe in there and kids could take a ride in the cardboard mini-train.

Most beautiful TRA stop
Feb 2018 • Solo
After going around Jiji Town by bicycle, I took the local train to Checheng Station at 12:33. It's Chinese New Year so the train is jampacked and there is some delay in departure, but it's understandable and worth squeezing myself in because when I stepped outside the train, I was in awe. It has the most beautiful scenery. Of course the weather has to be perfect with clear skies, otherwise, it will just be foggy and all white.
I had lunch in "Steam," where you can have a very relaxing view of the log pond, then went back to Visitor Center to get a map to go around the small village. I bought a bunch of chopsticks for 100NT only!
I took the same train to Ershui then back to Taipei.

Scenic Town in the mountains
Nov 2017 • Family
This is a beautiful little town nestled in the mountains. Its a bit out of the way, but worth the visit.

In particular, there is a beautiful little tea house called Steam (隐茶) with a pavillion over a pond that serves great traditional treats as well as a wide range of teas. Shoes are not allowed into this beautiful tea house. I especially like their green bean cakes that taste wonderful and melts in the mouth.

Heritage Japanese-built railway station with history aplenty
Aug 2017 • Couples
For the past 30 years the scenic Ershui - Checheng branch line with at least five tunnels has played host only to TRA railcars that operate about 10 daily return trips. Our three car set at noon from the main line station at Ershui had about 40 travellers with a further 15 joining en route. Typical gap between trains is 80 minutes. They operate on time.

Checheng station is a restored heritage wooden building. There are displays of logging and coal mining, two activities that earlier saw the raikway well used.

There is a good, cheap restaurant just up the short hill from the station while the public bus departs from the bus station near the river to Sun Moon Lake.

There are clean public toilets and plenty of souvenir and some food stalls.

Interesting train ride in a town with lots of history
Mar 2017 • Family
Get a guide to bring you around and explain the history behind this little township, and take a train ride between Checheng and JiJi. Also consider doing a scenic bicycle ride between the stops.

Something unusual
Feb 2017 • Friends
When you are in Sun Moon Lake, it is worth a visit to this place. If convenient and if time permits, try taking the train departing from the station.

Experience with another railway station
Feb 2017 • Friends
Part of it is still working, only parts of the tracks are not functional and open to visitors. There is an old train exhibited there to show the old times of train carrying coal. Also have exhibits to explain about the structure of the train. Spent a while in the cafe and sit outside if possible to enjoy the view in front of you while enjoying a cup of hot tea/coffee. The train to here can be quite crowded, suggest to get a driver but may experience the lack of parking space. The lack of packing space normally happen at the public parking lot (which is free and nearer), so the driver will just park at the private parking lot but it is further (I think the fee is NT$100). But the walk to the train station is just a 5 mins walk. No matter what, just sit back and relax~ :)

Rich with history
Dec 2016 • Family
This is a station built to support the logging industry in the early years of Taiwan.

At one part of this attraction is a beautiful lake. There is mock-up logging area to simulate how the trees are processed and moved. Lastly, there are lots of photo-opportunities at the Checheng Station itself.

One can take a train from Jiji train station to Checheng station but I am not sure about the schedule.
