Weekdays are great without the crowds

The trail is a nice workout while canopied by trees and cooled with the rush of mountain streams and breezes.

There are a few nice view points along the way, water fountains to refill your hydration pack / bottle, and if you head towards the university at the top of the trail you can find a lovely bakery for a treat.

Easy hike up steps with monkeys if you're lucky

We love walking up the Tianmu Trail as it is an easy way to climb above Tianmu with a great view once you are on top. If you are lucky, you can see the Formosan Macaques and Magpies.

Take a stroll along the Tian Mu Trail
Apr 2018 • Friends
Tian Mu is said to be Taipei's most prosperous neighbourhood. It once housed US military personnel, when Taiwan and the US were besties. It still houses the Taipei American School, the Taipei European School and Taipei Japanese School. The Tian Mu Trail leads to the Chinese Culture University. Some of Taiwan's shrinking number of allies have consulates in Tian Mu.. Along the trail, you will get some scenic views. You may see some monkeys, officially called Taiwan macaques. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone. Do not do anything foolish like attempting to feed them. You can either walk back down the trail again, or take the bus into Taipei. Be sure to take some water and and a snack. Take your phone, you can get some good pics along the way.

A good walk to challenge one's stamina

This hiking trail's official name is called "Old Tian Mu Hiking Trail" and in old days a major water pipe line ran along with it so it is also called Tian Mu Water Pile Road. One can step off #220 City Bus line and follow the sign to walk uphill. Along the trail there are many places to take break and the final stop is near the Chinese Culture University campus. After a short break one can take city bus back to Taipei. One should bring at least a bottle water for sweating would be the normal in walking through the trail. There are many side streets allow one to break away form the trail if one is too tired.
