The station is located at the highest altitude of the old Mountain line of Taiwan Railway. Dating back to 1906, it has a history of over 100 years.
It is a small, elegant station. The old mountain line was suspended in 1998. The wooden Japanese-style building has been announced as a "county approved historic site".
The surrounding scenery is stunning. Unfortunately, the whole area has been developed as an amusement park. There are many shops, cafes and restaurants. The station is all but forgotten.
Just another amusement park. Not worth a visit.

There are a few vine-covered brick columns that held up a bridge destroyed in an earthquake in 1935. The successor bridge is nearby, but no longer used by the railway. There is an amusement park style ride where people can pedal vehicles on the rail tracks or take a locomotive-powered train ride (with an old railway station that has been turned into a tourist shop). Somewhat interesting photo stop if you happen to be passing through/near here, but NOT worth going out of your way just to see this.

Taiwanese people like to preserve old railway stations. Shengang station is also the case. Unfortunately there is no public transportation to reach there, and so I walked from TRA Sanyi station. It took me about one hour, less than I had thought. To my surprise, the station was crowded with tourists. If so many people had used this station before, it couldn’t have been abolished. Now there is also a bicycle train service to Tenglong Bridge, but the ticket was sold out, as I checked.

This station is pretty cool although they have small railroad cars to ride up and down the track, today they were not running. So bad. The street right in front of the station is just as interesting as the station itself. There is one place that your guide will take you too that makes its own tea. You will be able to make your own by grinding it down. If you buy some your guide gets a kickback. FYI. We still had fun and bought some anyway. I hope the train cars are going if you decide to travel there.

Walk along the tracks or take photo with the scenic surroundings. You can see an elderly performing spinning tops, small or big. And I encountered a group of visually impaired singers, their singing is great too. After visiting the old railway station, you can walk along the street and the driver told us that it is said to be a Hakka village. You can enjoy traditional Hakka food.

Sheng Sing Station was built in 1905 but ceased operation in 1998 after the new mountain line replaced the old line and Sheng Sing Station ceased to be a railway station. However, the authority takes pride in the conservation and preservation of this railway monument.
Sheng Sing Station reminds me of the historical Tanjong Pagar Train Station in Singapore which is currently vacant. The Malayan railway line had ceased operation but the station as a symbolic and historical heritage building should not be demolished even though it stands on one of the most expensive piece of land in the city center. Heritage is one thing money could not buy. Land is scare in Singapore but the railway station as a national heritage monument should be preserved and conserved. The way Sheng Sing station is being preserved, it can be an example for Singapore to emulate.
This railway line and station is one of those infrastructure built by the Japanese colonialists to plunder the rich resources of Taiwan. The station is a reminder to the millions of Taiwanese of the national humiliation that China once went through when she was weak and fragile. Modernization is the key to national dignity and freedom.
The Long Teng Bridge is a fractured and collapsed remains of a bridge that was built in 1905. It collapsed and broke after being hit by the worst earthquakes in 1935 and 1998. It is a testimony to the devastating effect of natural earthquakes in Taiwan.
Both attractions are not really that spectacular but interesting to have a look.

The place wasn't very crowded at Sheng Sing train station and the food/souvenir sold there wasn't that much interesting imho. Just a simple place to walk around I suppose.
As for the Long Teng Bridge, there is a certain beauty in the remains that I can't really explain. You can wander around the area which has a nearby bridge that stretches across a river. If you are good with walk down the slope, you can relax your feet at the river, which was quite cooling at the time.
Not a place that young children may want to go though and doesn't need more than two hours to complete.

Broken pieces of bridge held together by steel plates to prevent it from collapsing. Waste time and effort to get there. Need to climb up steep slope to reach there

Great experience of the railbike ride. Basically the railbike is move by electric and don't need physically ride. Great scenery along the rail track. Can feel the fresh and cold air along the track while entering the tunnel. The tour guide is humour and good in deliver useful information.

Ideal place to visit. Adult can relax with the great view, children can play around the track and enjoy the train ride.
