The area
Neighborhood: Ruifan District
With its air of historical heritage, Shuijinjiu (ShueiNanDong, Jingguashi, Jiufen) used to be prosperous and glamorous due to mining. Although its magnificent semblance no longer exists, the peaceful and beautiful atmosphere has persisted. With a wave to the age of the gold rush, one can still see a glimpse of its glorious past through the Golden Waterfall. Gazing at the ShueiNanDong Remains of the 13 Levels, it is like a beautiful palace that was deserted, earning it the name of “Potala Palace of the Mountain Mines”. Probing forward to the mouth of the river is the considerably distinguished Yinyang Sea, with its half gold half bluish green spectacle inspiring countless imaginations of romance. Walking along the streets of the meandering old streets of Jiufen and tasting the various kinds of authentic eateries is the love of tourists. Stepping into the Golden Museum, one can glimpse the historical traces of the mining industry culture, reminiscing of past glories from its museum, living quarters, and shrine remains. The unassuming mountain city of Houtong used to be a mining village. With the call of cat lovers, volunteer groups were established to create a friendly environment for cats and turned Houtong into a cat village for cat lovers.

Beautiful place - a great hike!
Sep 2019
I went for a hike here on my trip to Taiwan. It took me over two hours to get here from my hotel in downtown Taipei. Use the google maps app to find which buses you can take to get here (make sure to tap your easy-card once you get on the bus and once you get off the bus). It is pretty easy and straightforward. If you are unsure if you are on the right bus try showing a picture of the hiking trail to the bus driver, he confirmed I was on the right bus. It was VERY hot the day I went. I cannot stress enough to take at least 3 bottles of water and an umbrella to shield yourself from the sun. Also pack some food to eat to keep your energy levels up. Watch out for the huge spiders in the brown gazebo's along the way. I had never seen such huge spiders before and they were all over the place in them. The views are beautiful and the hike was amazing. Near the end of the hike you start walking downhill into the jungle through a bunch of spiral stones stairs where I met a local selling water to the everyone on the hike so bring some small change if need be to buy some things. What a beautiful hike, I am so glad I went. Catch the returning bus just on the opposite side of the road where you get dropped off.

Totally worth the hike!

I loved the view so much that I wish to stay longer if not for the bus I have to catch. For slow hikers, you will take about an hour maximum.

Nice walk
Jun 2019 • Friends
This is such a gem. Our driver took us up from a trail where there was a nice lady selling drinks. The trail that we took takes us back to the harbour. The view was great! There wasn't much people and it wasn't too sunny. Absolutely do-able for people who aren't that fit.

An exhilarating and romantic nature walk experience
Apr 2019 • Couples
What I love about this mountain trail is that you get to enjoy the best of both worlds - to be surrounded by lush greenery as you breathe in crisp fresh air and be hugged by the seas at the same time. The spectacular view of the seas and waves as they crashed onto the rocks is a sight to behold. It was absolutely a soothing balm to a tired soul. This was by the far the best part of our trip. You have to be in good shape to be able to enjoy this because there are lots of steps going up but the view from the top was all worth the climb ;)

Morning walk
May 2019 • Friends
Intend to see the lighthouse but unfortunately there are some construction or upgrading at the cape which block us to visit it. Unless you are willing to take the risk on the narrow foot path on the side of the slope.
It is good challenges walk by following the constructed trail either you use the yellow or red path. The scenery is worth the walk.

Sea hug us
Aug 2018 • Friends
The total length of the trial is about3.5Km. It takes about three hours to finish the trial. There are no huge tree on the trial, so you must to put on the sun block. Or you will get the beautiful souvenir on the body. 🤣

The mountain is surrounded by the sea. Just like sea hug us. I hope you can come here to enjoy this amazing scenery.

Great ocean view

The trail is quite convenient to reach. There are direct buses from Taipei. The bus that goes to Fulong beach goes through these place. There are buses also from Keelung. The trail is of moderate difficulty and around 3 km. The place is quite scenic. The view East China sea from the mountain peak is really mesmerizing. The trail is very well constructed there very convenient to hike.

Some of the finest views in Taiwan.
Oct 2017 • Solo
At the end of an uninspiring day this was one of the best things I have done in Taiwan. The views from the very start to the end are immense. You are on the north east corner of Taiwan and can see both west and south. Must do even if one/two of branches are closed.

Try to reach the top
Jul 2017 • Solo
From Ruifang station, I took the 1015 bus going to Fulong Beach, then get off at Bitou Cape bus stop just after the Nanya Coast bus stop. From bus stop just follow the sign going to the trail. Or just walk going to the elementary school. From there is thr start of the trail. Try to reach the top as it is the highlight lf this trail. At first, I lose hope from the trail since I thought it will just be the same view all over, but once up there, the view is really superb. When you going there prepare a lot of water and wear comfortable walking shoes. There are no lockers or storage area for bags nearby so leave all your things in the hostel or at the Ruifang station.

If you want to go to the lighthouse, instead of going up stairs, take the detour and just bypass the gate. You could easily go inside. The trail is now close but can be still be visited, I think. I tried going there but along the way there are a lot of wasps nest and fallen trees, so its bit dangerous now. But if you have the guts, then you can go.
