Top ways to experience Golden Waterfall
The area
Neighborhood: Ruifan District
With its air of historical heritage, Shuijinjiu (ShueiNanDong, Jingguashi, Jiufen) used to be prosperous and glamorous due to mining. Although its magnificent semblance no longer exists, the peaceful and beautiful atmosphere has persisted. With a wave to the age of the gold rush, one can still see a glimpse of its glorious past through the Golden Waterfall. Gazing at the ShueiNanDong Remains of the 13 Levels, it is like a beautiful palace that was deserted, earning it the name of “Potala Palace of the Mountain Mines”. Probing forward to the mouth of the river is the considerably distinguished Yinyang Sea, with its half gold half bluish green spectacle inspiring countless imaginations of romance. Walking along the streets of the meandering old streets of Jiufen and tasting the various kinds of authentic eateries is the love of tourists. Stepping into the Golden Museum, one can glimpse the historical traces of the mining industry culture, reminiscing of past glories from its museum, living quarters, and shrine remains. The unassuming mountain city of Houtong used to be a mining village. With the call of cat lovers, volunteer groups were established to create a friendly environment for cats and turned Houtong into a cat village for cat lovers.

Memories of mining times past
Dec 2019
This landmark in Jinguashi looks amazing at night with its mixture of colors and reflections. It is a tranquil reminder of times past when mining was an important activity in this area. Worth a stop-by on the way up or down the Jiufen shopping alleys.

Nice photo stop
Dec 2019
It's not the largest waterfall in Taiwan but the color of the rocks/dirt gives it uniqueness. There is an old gold mine up the mountain that is now a museum worth a short visit. What's also very interesting as you're driving up or down the mountain, you can see the small creek running down to the ocean. It has a very golden/reddish color more pronounced than the waterfall.

Nice photo stop

We also stopped here on our trip to Jiufen.

It's not very big but it's definitely wortrh a quick photo stop - being unique and interesting. The colour is from contamination by heavy metals but is beautiful in the sun.

Tell the taxi to wait
Nov 2019 • Couples
Learn from our mistake - taking a taxi there is definitely convenient but if you go before 10, there are no buses to take you back until about 10:50! We went super early and we’re almost marooned there.

The falls are lovely but it’s kind of a one stop thing - you can walk the winding road to the gold museum but it’s hard if you’re not in shape and ready for the walk and there’s not much else around.

They’re great if you’re a photographer and the history of the area is interesting but you won’t need to stay long.

Great pitstop on the way to Jiufen
Nov 2019 • Family
We stopped here on our car ride to Jiufen. It's not a very big waterfall but it's definitely quite unique and interesting. It's also very close to the Shuinandong visitor center, which offers a great lookout point with views of the Yinyang Sea and of the hauntingly beautiful abandoned Shuinandong Smelting Plant.

All information plaques are in chinese, english, and japanese.

Its golden but its almost dry
Aug 2019
Golden Watefalls is located near the Gold Ecological Park in Jinguashi. Although real gold flowing from these falls would be too good to be true, the water is certainly a beautiful gold color as a result of the combination of regular rainfall in this mining area and the abundance of heavy metal elements deposited in the riverbed. The cascade of gold flowing down the hillside contrasts to the luminous green grass at its head. Indeed, the natural beauty of this place makes it a favorite for photography among newly-weds.

its just a 5 mins side trip included in the North coast Tour its just nice to take some photos but nothing especial in this place aside from the golden color . It would be nicer if theres abundant water in the falls.

The Golden Trickle...
Oct 2019
A bit underwhelming when I first arrived, the Golden Waterfall looked far more like a trickle than a waterfall when you compare it to the likes of the Shifen Waterfall. The history behind it was far more fascinating regarding the mines and the cause of the colouration of the soils surrounding the local area.
Doesn't require you to stay long here and would suggest more than 10mins to be honest. Depending ono the amount of people already standing around taking photos you could very easily get a few shots and be on your way again to more interesting spots.

Golden

This is one of the stops before going to the Jiufen Old Street.
Best time to visit is in Sunny Weather to see properly the golden/rusty rocks due to minerals from the mountain.

A 5-minute stop
Sep 2019 • Couples
This is one of those attractions that just need to be visited once. The place was packed with local photography groups with their tripods and super-duper cameras, and hogging the best spots!

Very pleasant stop
Aug 2019
The bus that takes you to the historical village will also make a stop herre. Be sure to do this. The waterfalls are not expansive, like Niagara Falls or other large falls, but they are quite lovely and worth a short stop. The bus comes along frequently, so spend 15 minutes or so to relax and enjoy the sound of falling water and take in the views of the harbor below.
