Down the old street, you get to the main road after a few hundred metres. Then it is about 500m down the hill to the visitor information centre. Here the walking path commences. It is not one for the disabled. It is mostly concrete, but has stairs at times and a couple of bridges to cross. About 700 metres of walking takes you to a food and souvenir precinct and then there is the observation areas. The falls are impressive, but it very much depend on the level of recent rain what you get to see.

Wonderful walk from bus stop to Shifen waterfall.
footpath, across the bridge. need to cross to bridges. reach different section of small & big waterfalls.
Enjoyable walk & exercise through the trail.
public amenity are available.
A lot of old street eateries & shops selling souvenirs.
The most attraction is tourists buy paper lanterns to fly into the sky.
thanks

We experienced the splendor of Shifen Waterfall. As I felt the vapor from d Waterfall, I felt like jumping into the little lake for a nice swim. View it from different spots to get different photo shots. Nice morning.

What a disappointment! Lovely walk down to the river side and across a suspension bridge to the train tracks. Only to arrive at the boarded up entrance of the waterfalls viewing platform. It's closed for renovations till year end.

It was drizzling and windy when we walked around the area. There were lots of tourists even on a weekday. It was an interesting walk over a suspension bridge and looking at the waterfall.

Our visit to the waterfall was part of a tour and for me it was the highlight of the trip. The walk to the waterfall is very nice and with beautiful surroundings. All in all, we had a great time, took some great pictures and enjoy a nice walk.

It is also a must see in Taiwan where a majestic water falls give life to every scenery. Great timing to go during summer to see the full view of the water falls.

The walk to the waterfall was easy enough. There are several viewing platforms and some older folks may find it challenging to reach some of these platforms. The waterfall is small but it is simply beautiful. Worth the visit.

Shifen is well known for the Shifen Waterfall (十分大瀑布), a 20 meter tall waterfall that creates a rainbow as it splashes into the lake, widely regarded as the most scenic in all of Taiwan. Because of its horseshoe shape and powerful flow, it is nicknamed the Little Niagara of Taiwan.
The local train station is located approximately a 10 minute walk down the river from the waterfall area. Local taxis can take you there if the weather is too hot.
While at Shifen Waterfall, you can stop at the visitor center to cool off, buy snacks and use the restroom. There is no entrance fee.
From the visitor center its about another 10-15 minute short easy walk/hike to the falls. Along the way, you may notice some interesting holes in the riverbed. At various points along the river, the uneven flow of the water creates vortexes that traps passing rocks, causing them to spin and carve deep holes. This constant erosive action has produced potholes.
Once you arrive at the waterfall, there is a snack stand and various viewing areas. Since we were there in the middle of summer the falls were not as impressive as many of the pictures shown, however worth a look.
The best time to go is after a heavy rain.

Hello!
Am traveling with kids 6 and 2 yr olds. Is the trail to the waterfalls kid- friendly? Does it really take 30 mins to get to the spot?
Thanks!

I have seen families with little children, as little as 2, making the walk. (Then again, one child differs from another).
But, all kids love to climb up and down.
It will take 30mins as it will be a leisure walk where you will stop, at numerous spots, to take pictures.

Hi, I’m heading to Taiwan with my family and was thinking of doing this activity. How taxing is the whole trail? Is it on a flat ground? Was wondering if it is too taxing for someone who has a chronic heart condition? Thanks!

It is not on flat ground and one needs to climb numerous steps before reaching the waterfall.
As for those with chronic heart disease and has difficulty achieving distance on foot, this trail may be challenging.
If you would like, you may still take a leisurely walk at the beginning of the trail and assess your ability to continue on the trail. Should you not want to continue, you may take a rest at the cafe at the visitor centre while waiting for the rest of the party to complete the trail.
Thereafter, you may walk over to the opposite side to where you release the lanterns.
Generally, all these needs walking.

If I only have the time to bring my 5 and 7 year old children to one waterfall, which one should I choose? Golden Waterfall or Shifen Waterfall?

I did not visit Golden Waterfall, and hence can't compare the two. But Shifen Waterfall is quite nice, and there's a small garden 'playground' near the fall. Hope that helps
