Yeah, it's worthwhile especially if your timing enables you to photo a Pingxi train going across the Keelung River. The modest Shifen Waterfall itself is some 2km from Shifen station of the TRA Pingxi Line. We took a taxi which shortened our walk to 500m.

    Waterfall
A chance to see the natural beauty and to walk across a metal slightly swaying bridge. It is not a large waterfall, and requires a level of mobility as there are several flights of steps to be surmounted. You can walk to Shifen Old Town from here, but most tour groups would go via the buses. There are a couple of shops here selling souvenirs and local snacks. We managed to buy some persimmons, which had just come into season.

Good for couples/friends, less so for elderly and toddlers
Went with a family of 3 toddlers and 2 elderly. The path from the car park (we hired private driver) to the waterfall was about 20 minutes walk, was told by the carpark warden that we could bring a pram, but turned out that there were quite a number of flight of steps, and uneven ground as we got nearer to the waterfall area. Steps were probably too many for my 70+ old father to ascend/descend too, struggled quite a bit. The waterfall itself is grand and quite impressive, would be able to appreciate even more if it was less crowded. Everyone was crowding at the same area to take group photos

What a disappointment! Lovely walk down to the river side and across a suspension bridge to the train tracks. Only to arrive at the boarded up entrance of the waterfalls viewing platform. It's closed for renovations till year end.

Wonderful walk from bus stop to Shifen waterfall.

footpath, across the bridge. need to cross to bridges. reach different section of small & big waterfalls.

Enjoyable walk & exercise through the trail.

public amenity are available.

A lot of old street eateries & shops selling souvenirs.

The most attraction is tourists buy paper lanterns to fly into the sky.

thanks

We experienced the splendor of Shifen Waterfall. As I felt the vapor from d Waterfall, I felt like jumping into the little lake for a nice swim. View it from different spots to get different photo shots. Nice morning.

It was drizzling and windy when we walked around the area. There were lots of tourists even on a weekday. It was an interesting walk over a suspension bridge and looking at the waterfall.

Our visit to the waterfall was part of a tour and for me it was the highlight of the trip. The walk to the waterfall is very nice and with beautiful surroundings. All in all, we had a great time, took some great pictures and enjoy a nice walk.

It is also a must see in Taiwan where a majestic water falls give life to every scenery. Great timing to go during summer to see the full view of the water falls.

The walk to the waterfall was easy enough. There are several viewing platforms and some older folks may find it challenging to reach some of these platforms. The waterfall is small but it is simply beautiful. Worth the visit.

Shifen is well known for the Shifen Waterfall (十分大瀑布), a 20 meter tall waterfall that creates a rainbow as it splashes into the lake, widely regarded as the most scenic in all of Taiwan. Because of its horseshoe shape and powerful flow, it is nicknamed the Little Niagara of Taiwan.

The local train station is located approximately a 10 minute walk down the river from the waterfall area. Local taxis can take you there if the weather is too hot.

While at Shifen Waterfall, you can stop at the visitor center to cool off, buy snacks and use the restroom. There is no entrance fee.

From the visitor center its about another 10-15 minute short easy walk/hike to the falls. Along the way, you may notice some interesting holes in the riverbed. At various points along the river, the uneven flow of the water creates vortexes that traps passing rocks, causing them to spin and carve deep holes. This constant erosive action has produced potholes.

Once you arrive at the waterfall, there is a snack stand and various viewing areas. Since we were there in the middle of summer the falls were not as impressive as many of the pictures shown, however worth a look.

The best time to go is after a heavy rain.
