A lovely restaurant offering delicious Taiwanese food and snacks
Feb 2021
A lovely restaurant in the old street. The layout of the restaurant looks like an elementary school classroom. The customers sit at old kids wooden chairs, and eat at old kids wooden desk. Quite a fun experience.

The owner and his wife are kind and helpful.

I ordered dry noodles, pork thick soup and stinky tofu. All were delicious, especially the stinky tofu. It was among the best I ‘ve ever tasted.

Last stop of Pingxi line
May 2019 • Solo
Jingtong is the last station of TRA Pingxi line. I bought one day ticket of the line and went to this small town. It is much less touristic than Shifen, but Old Street was interesting. You may feel as if you went back to the past. Jingtong is very small. In my opinion, one hour stay is more than enough.

Nice but small old street - best as part of a daytrip
Feb 2019 • Couples
We visited JingTong Old Street during Chinese New Year and were lucky enough to see new year lanterns being set off from the railway tracks. The old street is quite cute with a variety of souvenir and food stalls, but it doesn't compare to the likes of Shifen or Jiufen old streets - worth a visit if you are planning on exploring all the towns on the same railway track in one day.

Quiet and Instagrammable Place
Nov 2017
If you watch Taiwanese dramas, this place will look very familiar to you. A lot of Taiwanese dramas filmed here. It's a quiet little town and it has quaint shops and local foods that you can try.

Sky lantern

We went to Jingtong old street for the purpose of flying sky lantern. The jingtong railway station has great scenery and the old street invoked nostalgic memories of the past.

Step Back in Time
Jan 2018 • Solo
Charming former coal mining village set in a lovely natural environment. As soon as I alighted the platform at the train station (the last stop on the Pingxi Historic Railway Branch) I felt like I had stepped back in time. The narrow stone streets and 100 year old wooden buildings seem like they have been preserved in time. There are plenty of food vendors/restaurants as well as cute souvenir shops. Just across the rail tracks you can see and explore the remnants of several mining buildings. Be sure to check out the police station which is an old building that is in the shape of a huge lantern!

Quaint terminal railway station along the Pingxi Railway Line
Dec 2017 • Family
Terminal railway station along the Pingxi Railway Line. Former old coal mining area since the Japanese era. Can set off sky lanterns. Write on bamboo wishing tubes. Walk along the old railway tracks just like in the popular Taiwan movie. Some souvenir shops and eateries lining the railway station.

The train station and old street take you back to almost a hundred of years ago
Dec 2017 • Couples
The atmosphere is almost like a time tunnel that bring you back to a hundred of years ago where the Japanese and local cultural mix provide you a fascinating experience. It's an easy walk along the old street and the train station next to each other. There are just a few shops where you can buy soveniours. There is a coffee shop that offers high quality coffee, a couple of local snacks that will attract your eye balls and likely you will be tempted to try, which is inexpensive, e.g. NT$100 for a big pancake as big as a 12 inch pizza.
