Great Buddha
Dec 2018 • Solo
This Zen temple is known for its great statue of Buddha. As there is only a few Buddhist temples in Taichung, it is worthy to visit and to take a look. The main building, covered by another concrete building, is also interesting. There is a bus stop called Pao Chueh temple on Sanmin Road, but it is more convenient to use Xin Min high school bus stop.

Nice temple
Oct 2018 • Family
Not too much Buddhist temple around Tai Chung area so this is one of those with a big Buddha statue.

Worth a stop for the Buddha
Sep 2018 • Couples
Pao Chueh Temple would be the only temple visit in Taichung. While there is nothing unique about the temple structure itself, it’s the giant five-story tall statue of the smiling Buddha that makes it worth a stop.

A giant statue inside of a Monastery.

There have been many upgrades to this place over the years. A new temple surrounding the old one and dorms for the monks are most recent. You can't go inside the idol/statue anymore. You can just take a picture in front of it. Not too much to see.

Quick Trip
Feb 2018 • Couples
It’s worth a trip just to see the big Buddha. Luckily I live close, if you had to come from far away, it’s not really worth the trip.

That is One Big Buddha
Dec 2017 • Couples
---however, there is not much else to see. It was nice walking around the grounds but for Taiwan with amazing temples this was not a big deal.

Worth a Quick Trip
Nov 2017 • Friends
The smiling Buddha is worth taking pictures. You’re not allowed to enter, unfortunately. The district, North District, has other attractions, so this stop could be part of a day out

Not what it used to be.

30+ years ago my wife lived in Taichung and came here often. This temple and Buddha were in a thriving neighborhood and are now walled off and poorly maintained. The Buddha is closed for entry. We enjoyed seeing them, however we feel it would be more enjoyable if it was as before where you could go into the Buddha on tours.

Only nice monument in this city
Nov 2017 • Solo
Taichung is not turistic city at all. There is quite nice city park (15min far from train station) rainbow village and this statue of big smiling budha is the only interesting in the city. I spent there 3 days and it is good base camp for Alishan or Sun Moon lake trips and finally I have to say that people here are fantastic they really want to help you (because no en language and no maps in the city) and food is fantastic as well. Try ice cream shop close to train station.

Really Big Happy Buddha
Aug 2017 • Solo
Worth a stop. Just walk in and take some pictures. The Buddha is almost 90 foot tall. Really impressive.
