Good for a day trip
Aug 2020
Nanliao Port is a harbour for fishing vessels. The port is quite attractive. Fish is bought and sold on the first floor of the fish market.. The second floor has a number of restaurants. You can buy a fish on the first floor and have it cooked on the second floor. The Nanliao Port is a popular day out from Hsinchu..

Good for a family day trip

Nanliao Port is a fishing harbor that has become destination for day trippers. The fish market sells fish wholesale on the first floor. The second floor has a good collection of eateries. You can buy a fish on the first floor and have it cooked upstairs for minimal fee. There's a nice grassed area to picnic on. It's the start of the 17 Km track. he fish market opened in 1949, and became a distribution hub for marine products. By the way, Hsinchu is famous for its windy weather, it's a fine place to fly a kite.

值得一去
Dec 2018
Very nice place. We went cycling along the coast. Nice view and good weather. We rent a electric 4-wheel cart which can save our energy. A best-keep-secret place for travellers. There is a small cafe mid-way the rainbow bridge, the hamburgers they offer are not bad, in fact quite delicious and worth a try. XXX

Its very nice place with 17 km long beach. U can spent 4-5 hrs easily there. U need to hire a small paddle car (or battery car) available for 2, 4, 6 people. Then u can go and enjoy the beach. U must try oyster omlet here. The market is also very good with lots of see food.

Unlikely fun right here
Jun 2017
Stopped here for pizza after a sunset beach party nearby. #1- you can get really good coal-brick oven pizza here at Nanlio Port. #2- The atmosphere is so lively, unpretentious, and fun. Families come out in droves for dinner at the small little eateries here. Come early to catch a seat- tables are limited!

Wind, bicycles and food
Dec 2017 • Friends
Nanliao has a vibrant fish market, a large grassy area recently landscaped, a large harbor and a small one surrounded by restaurants. The wind always blows and is perfect for kites. The cycle track along the river between Hsinchu downtown and the small harbor makes for pleasant exercise. There is also a cycle path all the way down the coast which is very popular on weekends. The best pizza in Hsinchu is to be found next to the Mazu Temple overlooking the small harbor. Village Cafe serves excellent food with a Spanish influence. The whole area is being landscaped and will be beautiful when finished. Nanliao is the place to go to fly kites, to cycle, to view the sea, and to eat good food.

Local place with rustic flavor
Aug 2017 • Friends
Was at Hsinchu, visited the port area as one of the key attractions in Hsinchu. Nothing much here but it felt rustic and authentic. Don't expect it to be some fancy port. It is one that is quite dated but with local flavor. I think the whole area is undergoing an upgrade with a lot of construction going around.

I had tea at a random family owned cafe located nearby. Afternoon tea break at a rustic port... Aaaaaawwww... That's life.

Place with crowded teens and strong wind
Aug 2016 • Family
The seafood just ok, not worthy take a detour. If there's no option, you can have the food. The wind is too strong and make ppl headache. So take the hoodie if you have XD.

Windy fishing port with seafood
Dec 2016 • Family
Very windy tourist spot. Excellent for a visit. Lots of seafood, for buying raw or cooked. A large car park at the end of the road.

Sacred place to catch Poke, mon
Oct 2016 • Business
I've had Poke before (tuna "cooked chemically" with citrus), and I assume here must have some popular translation with Jamaican flare: "try some Poke, mon!" Hahahaha.
Kinda weird--people here were often talking about "Poke, mon" (some were very emotional about it which made me guess it might be even a spiritual thing around here???), but then many were I guess totally oblivious to the spiritual nature of this place and just wandered around while mostly looking at their phones.
I wanted to know more about it and maybe eat some IRIE Poke, mon, but just unlucky to not run into any good English speakers (my Chinese is terrible) and things would eventually come around to my phone model and spare batteries and such, and I'm like "can we just focus on the Poke", but can't get mad for my lack of the local language.
I did get some great sashimi at the market here and enjoyed the free sax player outside.
Sunset was really great too!
And kites!!
