This is actually a fishing port and it is also converted to a tourist attraction. There are huge field where children can fly kites, walking trail along the coastal line and also bicycle rental service.

You can actually buy fresh seafood from the fish market and have it cooked at the restaurant located at the first floor. There are also a couple of mobile cafe (converted from trucks and container trailer).

This place is definitely worth a visit.

There's a lot to recommend Nan Liao, when friends come to visit me in Taiwan this is pretty much a must-do thing.
Typically, when showing people around we rent a bike from one of the many bike rental places (or even a 5 seater bike-buggy) and go for a ride along the scenic coastline (depending on how far you want to ride this can take anywhere up to 3hrs).
In the port itself is also a nice place to visit, it's a working fishing port and as such there is no shortage of fishing boats to look at while taking a stroll. There is a pretty nice fish market, which on the weekends has an outdoor food/carnival-game market attached.
There's a lot of green space, which is usually used for flying of kites or picnicking.
A pond for wakeboarding, tourist viewing tower, buggies for the kids and plenty of restaurants.
If you go up to the working port part of the jetty, you can climb the wind/sea wall and watch the sun go down.
In the evening, several cafe-trucks remain open and typically have some sort of live music.
Nan Liao is really a place one can spend a whole day if one wishes.. :)

This was a great sunny, windy day! We went to Nan Liao, the old port and met friends who took the #15 bus from Downtown. At the port my friends rented bikes for $150 ntd (for the whole day). We rode to the fish market and had a little bite of fresh fish before heading down the 17km coastal trail. There's almost no vertical gain so very little real work, just cruise along and enjoy the ocean, mangroves, birds and sunshine. Returning to the port, we bought kites from vendors with all sizes and colors, then sat listening to live music at a little outdoor 'coffee shop'. It was a great day!

Very nice place. We went cycling along the coast. Nice view and good weather. We rent a electric 4-wheel cart which can save our energy. A best-keep-secret place for travellers. There is a small cafe mid-way the rainbow bridge, the hamburgers they offer are not bad, in fact quite delicious and worth a try. XXX

I love Nanliao port for it's people watching. Kids with kites, couples taking selfies, guys wakeboarding and windsurfing, families eating or shopping at the fish market....
I like the bridges that get me to Nanliao from Jhubei very much; great big red works of art.
I love the pizza from the restaurant with the stone oven, and I love watching the dragon boat races in June. The rental bicycles are cute, up to 4 people per bike, and the trail is nice.
I don't like the garbage strewn on the beach, it is the only thing that stops me from giving Nanliao port a 5/5.

This port is a popular place for people to visit at the weekend. There is a fish market, room for kite flying, wake-boarding, pedal boats, bike rental for the coast path that starts here, and several cafes, both indoor and outdoor.

Nanliao Port has been renovated and beautified by the city government to offer tourists more recreational purposes. The old piers have a brand new look with vivid-colored images to replace its original pale-faced cemented ones. The spacious surroundings can be set for various outdoor activities, Young people or families with kids take to the 17km bike trail along the coast, with salty air and ocean breeze along the way. The not-so-easy trip is relaxing and fun as you can quit anytime. Fresh seafood remains the most influencial status. The restaurants serve yummy, inexpensive and filling meals. It's also intersting to tour the fish market. The stands display beautiful harvest from the sea. What's more, the auction of piles of seafood is a marvellous scene to watch. The hosts shout at the top of their lungs, adding one more fish or octopus into the nearly full basket, and then one more, while the customers request this or that basket at a bargain price. And finally, the deal is done. An overloaded bag of seafood for less than US$30, more than sufficient for a family of 4 to enjoy for 10 days. October is the best time to fly a kite in the field. The sky is crystal blue. The colorful kites rise up here and there, creating a vibrant atmosphere, as if wild flowers popped up simultaneously.

This is a harbor for tourist visit but not local people. You could share a good view and ride bicycles along the bike trail and enjoy the winds flew over your faces.

If you're a kite enthusiast, then the Nanliao Port on weekends is your haven. Kites abound. They also have wake boarding on a sort of mechanized pulley system that looks really fun. You can also rent a giant swan to paddle boat around in.
Surrounding the area are restaurants of all sorts of varieties. Italian, Spanish, Seafood, and one special one that serves delicious pizza and tandoori chicken wings.
Don't forget to visit the fish market across the parking lot for some of the freshest fish you can get.
