The area
Neighborhood: West Central District/ North District
The West Central District is the most populous and the busiest area. A lot of shops and hotels crowd the district, and the long-standing history results in a variety of street food. In addition to that, this district also has the highest number of temples. This is how it got the name “Tainan’s Pantheon.” Historic buildings are literally ubiquitous. For example, Hayashi Department Store, National Museum of Taiwan Literature, Confucius Temple, Chihkan Tower (formerly Fort Provintia), Sacrificial Rites Martial Temple, Tainan Grand Mazu (name of a goddess) Temple, etc. Recently, the tourism in Tainan has laid emphasis on alleys and lanes. Examples include Fujhong Street specialising in creative handicrafts, as-you-stroll desserts on Jhengsing Street, Shennong Street lined with hundred-year-old ancient houses, Sinyi Street on which the old city gate stands, Sinmei Street where old and new cultures fuse together, and Guohua Street and Baoan Raod famous for all the savoury food. All the traditional and delicious food and flavours are about to burst in your mouth.
The North District, on the other hand, is a quiet secret hideaway. Lane 321 on Gongyuan Road used to be a Japanese soldiers’ dormitory. Now a few artists have set up their studios here. There are diversified art styles in each old Japanese-style house. The Garden Night Market on Haian Road is one of the famous night markets in both Tainan and Taiwan, and was the top 12 Facebook check-in location worldwide in 2013.

The park, within easy walking distance of the train station, is a place to get away from the city bustle for a little while, for locals and visitors alike. There are shaded walks and areas for recreation well utilised by the older folk for dance and exercise sessions. The centerpiece is the lake with its striking pavilion on the water, accessed by a path of many twists and turns.

This park is established almost 100 years ago,(Since 1917) and the biggest park in Tainan City. It's also a botany garden with many beautiful flowers and trees since it is first designed for tropical experiments. There is a famous historical memorial arch just beside the boarding area of the big poor. You can also find many senior citizens playing chess, doing Taichi here. Do not miss the historic sites surrounded like buddist temple once you visit here.

We visited the park for a bit of a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was a nice place for a rest and a picnic, but not as much to see as others parks in the city.

In the summer it was extreme humid in this area so make sure you are very hydrated. If you like visiting temples, I would suggest you coming to this one.

I liked the kids playground on this park. Quite big and available lots of physical activities for kids. My twins always happy to visit this place and see the dogs around. Don't forget to bring your ball to play a football on the grass near the playground. So far, we enjoyed very much.

Living in Tainan for more than two years, I've had many chances to visit Tainan Park.
As a leafy oasis in the middle of an urban sprawl, it makes a refreshing contrast to the surrounding area.
However, there are several serious problems with this park:
1. Many local people ride their scooters and motorcycles on the paths within the park, occassionaly at fairly high speeds. This is completely unacceptable within the main public park of a large city, and makes it unsafe for people to walk. On one evening last spring, one of my friends was nearly knocked down by a scooter rider while walking within the park. The scooter was clearly treating the pathway as a road.
2. The park is often filled with litter.
3. The lake is often filled with dead fish (in certain parts).
The above problems could be solved with enough attention by the local government.

Take a walk in the beautiful park. The city really takes care of it. Nice flower arrangements. Small paths to walk around. In the middle of the park a small lake with a bridge over. There were even people standing there fishing!

If you are a lucky visitor, you can see many cultural activities here- Taichi Boxing, YuanGi Dancing, TuFong Dancing...etc. Can have small boat surfing the lake if you like. Near the Tainan Train Station-the old city center. Surrounded by many interesting small restaurants.

Tainan Park is a public space with a traditional concept. Equipped with several pavilions, footpaths, curved bridges and lily ponds scattered in the park area.
The pavilion and the bridge that runs along the river is an icon of Tainan Park. The park, which is also called Zhongshan Park, is filled with big old trees, so it feels like walking in the middle of a forest.
In the morning or evening many local residents, foreign workers and tourists spending time there. Some visitors also use the park as a social gathering.
The location is close to Tainan Station but it will be a long walk to get to Tainan Park. It's better to rent a bicycle and ride to the park to enjoy your free time in Tainan.
