Came here just after Christmas, there're soooo many people. All the paintings were very bright and colorful. Some of the quote were very inspirational. The old gentlemen who painted all the paintings were actually there when we visited, still looks very healthy despite his old...More

Very interesting place to learn about a grandpa and his passion to save a little village before destroying. Great job “grandpa”!

The story goes that at the age of 86 ex-military Mr. Huang started painting his house and was encouraged by his neighbours to continue with their homes. The results are numerous colourful walls which are really nice to look at (reflecting a pleasant personality) and...More

Besides the eye candy of a quaint community dwelling... The inspiring story of Rainbow Grandpa who painted his community dwelling with the hope of preserving it from government reconstruction turned the whole area to one of the top new tourist attraction in Taichung. It speaks...More

It is winter in December and it gets dark very early. It was already dark when we arrived at Rainbow Village, the place is lit with lights and there are still visitors wandering around.

It is special but I am not sure how long this place will last. Hopefully the government will preserve this place and will not demolish it cos the surrounding areas have been demolished and left this piece of land with houses. The colours are very...More

Looove this place! The place itself screams insta worthy! I should warn you, that's all it is...a small village (or what's left of it) with painted streets and walls and everything in between. They set up a little souvenir + snack shops for tourists -...More

A very small compound with colorfully painted houses. Only one painter created it. I think only passion can drive people to do something like this. That's why it's worth to visit.

A small compound to visit. But it does bring smile to your face. Beautiful colorful drawings to see and be marvel at. Meet the artist in his eighties. No entrance fee. You can buy some souvenirs here too.

Its in Taichung. Look at the address, or google. It is accessible by bus, but the easiest way to go there is by taxi. Taxis in Taiwan is quite cheap.

Public transport around Taichung attractions (25 Replies)
Can the places at Taichung (Sun Moon Lake, Cingjing, Rainbow village ect) be done by public transport? I will be traveling alone and hiring a taxi is very expensive. Is it difficult to travel to these places and back to Taichung's Mingsu? Thanks.
