Excellent introduction to tofu making and the history of the region
Oct 2018 • Family
We are a family of parents and two young adults touring the Yilan area after visiting Taroko Gorge.

Having eaten tofu all our lives, we were keen to find out how it is made. We signed up for a DIY tour.

We made an appointment and were met by Mr Lin, our host for 1.5 hours who was also the one who demonstrated the making of tofu, and instructed the three of us who signed up for the DIY tour.

We were the only ones in the workshop, although in an adjacent room, there were many more seats and tables, obviously used for much larger groups.

Mr Lin was very engaging, telling us about the development of the region in the last several decades, and how tofu and preserved ducks eggs which the company produced, among other things, became part of the development of the agricultural industry there.

Making the tofu (we signed up for two things : bean curd (a popular desert eaten in Asia) as well as tofu (nowadays commomly eaten worldwide) was great fun, enlivened by Mr Lin's commentary.

We were much better able to appreciate not just how tofu was made (important for young people who nowadays are wont to think chickens grow in supermarkets) but also a better appreciation of this part of Taiwan.

A few hours well spent.

Fun 2h workshop and tour
Oct 2018 • Family
We arrived at 3:10pm for a 3pm appointment after missing the train. The gentleman attending to us was very chatty and introduced the background of the tofu and duck egg industry in great detail. We purchased two silk beancurd and one firm tofu ($150 for silk beancurd, $300 for firm tofu) for four of us. We were introduced to and sampled 5 different soy bean drinks, and the century egg. The DIY food process was broken down to layman terms and each part clearly explained. Very informative and fun for our family (aged 20-60). We got to eat all DIY products at the end with condiments provided.

Place for introduction of local produce
Dec 2016 • Family
This place sells the local produce of Luodong, mainly soy bean products and century eggs. They provide hand on DIY activities, catering to young kids. We signed up for the beancurd making DIY for TWD 150 per pax. (Includes a free soy drink and discount coupon for purchases at the store). Parents who sit in pay TWD 50. Though the activity was stated to be 1.5h, the actually making of beancurd lasts only 5min, the rest of the time we were listening to the lady talk about Luodong history and produce and half an hour catered for us to shop at their store.

Not Fun
Jul 2015 • Business
This is where tour groups use toilets before heading for the highway. There are a few souvenir stores and a restaurant; none of them is fun. Having said that, one good thing about this place is: the railway station is very near, so it's very easy to visit.
