Attractive small town
Jun 2019 • Solo
On the way back from Suao, I had to change the train here, and as I had more than one hour free, I visited Luodong night market. Although it is a small town, it is quite vivid. The night market is really worth visiting.

Interesting night market with great variety of goods and food

This is one of the better night markets in Taiwan especially one that I can enjoy walking through. There are also shops on some lanes and I bought a nice lightweight jacket which served me well for many of my trips in Lake district in June, Europe etc.

Small interesting city on the East of Taiwan
May 2018
Luodong/Lutong is a small city on the East of Taiwan near to Yilan (Ilan) and an hour's bus ride from Taipei City Hall Bus Station. It is more traditional than Taipei, being situated in a more rural area, and it is possible to hear far more Taiwanese spoken here. Norm the railway / bus station one can walk along Gung Jen road, past shops selling traditional Yilan delicacies such as cookies called Cow Tongues because of their shape, as well as pineapple cakes. At the opposite end of Gung Jen Road to,the station is the Sports Park - one of the best. Luodong also boasts the best night market in Taiwan, which gets very busy after six pm.

Interesting, but crowded
Jul 2015 • Family
Night market at this town is famous in the area. We went on a Saturday night to experience the energy.
It was lovely with vast choices of tasty food, interesting games etc.
Yet simply too crowded. And in a hot summer night we had to struggle our way out after 30mins.

A home away from home
Jul 2015
Lotung was my home for one year while participating in a cultural exchange program. I could not ask for friendlier people than when I lived in Luodong. People routinely went out of their way to ensure that me, as a lost American was okay. The biggest obstacle was not speaking fluent Mandarin. If I spoke fluent Mandarin, I feel like I would have gotten so much more out of my experience in Luodong.

A lovely township-Loutung

In Loutung, there are a lot of activities you can do, for all ages. For elderly, you can do just sightseeing. For adults, you can go cycling. For parents with young children, you can just stay in the sports park or do DIY. You can visit night market, which becomes a popular one in Taiwan. You can also go to a luxury or not that luxury restaurants to eat sea foods.

very popular and crowded

At Lotung you can find everything you need. As we are non-taiwan citizens, we can only rent a electric bike at twd400 a day. The electric bike is like your motorcycle but it runs on battery. So you need to change / charge the battery every 40km. The most famous attraction in Lotung is the night market. Queues for the famous local food like "gao zha pu rou" and mutton soup are 20 minutes at least. Overall a very local place to go to.

Lots of food but a little crowded for family with small kids..
Night market is huge! For family with a 3 year old prepare to hold ur little one for place is so crowded with people.Lots of food choices and many things to entertain ur kids. They have some foods and drinks that i dnt find in some night markets. The pizza serve in an icecream cone like and frog eggs for drinks?Never tried both though..
Walk a little and at the back of night market is a snall park with a fire dance performance of some locals..You can watch this free performance while resting and eating your food of choice.

Must try: pizza sushi
We went there on the night of arrival at Luodong and were very disappointed to find very few stalls opened due to the heavy rain. We managed to do some shopping at a sheltered mall-like building. With limited food option, we ended up eating noodles at 7eleven.
2nd night was way better since the rain was less heavy and most stalls were open. We were quite surprised to find new food like pizza sushi which cost NTD40 for a square portion and NTD70 for a rectangle portion. It is made of a layer of 爆米香, a layer of sushi rice, a piece of seaweed plus toppings of your choice which include real fresh prawns, lobster salad, ham, bacon, chicken and cheese. Looks good, smells good, tastes good and oil free. Always thought "new idea food" can only be found in fengjia night market. What a pleasant surprise!
