Stayed at the Kapok Hotel right next to the Luodong Night Market. The staff mentioned about the night market and informed us that its a must visit. We were quite amazed with the amount of people and the food it offered. We ate so much at so many places, absolutely stuffed.

Lotung is very small, even smaller than the international airport!
But that doesn't mean that Lutong has nothing to concern about.
Lutong is very famous for the food in night market, I've tried many kinds of food stands since I first visited here.

I think Lutong is a miniature of Taiwan.
People are very low-key, just doing their own things and focus on that.
They don't want fame and being famous, all they need is one thing to love and keep doing that all lifelong, even it's a tiny thing!

By the way, I love Lutong.

I like it here. Small simple town. People are really friendly and helpful. The night market is huge. I prefer it here than 士林 night market. Food & people are very nice.

Must try the 多葱饼 (the store with the longest queue near the 公园 washroom is really the best)。Kinda oily but since the wrap is so thin and the spring onion is really fresh & plenty, you don't really feel the oil much. Be prepared to queue for good food though.

Luodong/Lutong is a small city on the East of Taiwan near to Yilan (Ilan) and an hour's bus ride from Taipei City Hall Bus Station. It is more traditional than Taipei, being situated in a more rural area, and it is possible to hear far more Taiwanese spoken here. Norm the railway / bus station one can walk along Gung Jen road, past shops selling traditional Yilan delicacies such as cookies called Cow Tongues because of their shape, as well as pineapple cakes. At the opposite end of Gung Jen Road to,the station is the Sports Park - one of the best. Luodong also boasts the best night market in Taiwan, which gets very busy after six pm.

We went there on the night of arrival at Luodong and were very disappointed to find very few stalls opened due to the heavy rain. We managed to do some shopping at a sheltered mall-like building. With limited food option, we ended up eating noodles at 7eleven.
2nd night was way better since the rain was less heavy and most stalls were open. We were quite surprised to find new food like pizza sushi which cost NTD40 for a square portion and NTD70 for a rectangle portion. It is made of a layer of 爆米香, a layer of sushi rice, a piece of seaweed plus toppings of your choice which include real fresh prawns, lobster salad, ham, bacon, chicken and cheese. Looks good, smells good, tastes good and oil free. Always thought "new idea food" can only be found in fengjia night market. What a pleasant surprise!

A small local night market and it's crowded with people hunting for food, and also full of group tourist. We couldn't find places to sit hence opt for stall with less people. Food selection is not as much as other big market but price is slightly cheaper. Famous delicacies include 諾貝爾奶冻,牛扎糖,麻糬。。。Anyway, you won't be wrong to join any queue for food!

I get into a wrong entrance and left me without much choices of food at the beginning. Not until I got full from an ordinary dumpling shop did I find out I was not at the right spot! Despite I was totally stuffed, I still could not help but buy the mouth watering bbq chicken wings and took the famous herbal goat meat soup. Taiwan night market never fails!

On the way back from Suao, I had to change the train here, and as I had more than one hour free, I visited Luodong night market. Although it is a small town, it is quite vivid. The night market is really worth visiting.

This is one of the better night markets in Taiwan especially one that I can enjoy walking through. There are also shops on some lanes and I bought a nice lightweight jacket which served me well for many of my trips in Lake district in June, Europe etc.
