Meiji architecture and art exhibitions
May 2018 • Couples
Also named Lukang Culture Center. A typical Meiji style building from the Japanese era, mixing East and West influences. After several assignments and earthquakes, the building is now a peaceful and empty place welcoming art exhibitions (free entrance during our visit). The building is conveniently located midway on the Old Lukang Street close to venerable temples.

Small Museum
Mar 2018 • Solo
Located along Lukang Old Street, this seemingly out of place building is now home to a small local museum. It’s 1930’s Western architectural style lies in stark contrast to the surrounding 19th century traditional buildings with their red-tiled rooftops. In the day I visited there was an exhibition featuring lithographs and watercolor paintings. Staff was nice. It’s worth a quick look and it’s unusual architectural style may be a draw for locals.

The building does not belong here

Lukang Union Hall looks a little out of place in this area as it is large compared to the small shops and houses in Lukang Old Street. I did not enter as i was there early morning but i believe that it is no longer a town hall but some type of gallery.

For locals

You may not need to stay there for long. Just one of the landmarks while you are walking down the street.

This building looked out of place as every single building here is dated 300 years. Then in the middle of the area you have a very western building near a place where many people could be gathered as an assembly area. Our guide told us that nowadays locals set up exhibits of their handiwork. It intrigued me and I went inside and started looking at the exhibits. I was also photographing the very beautiful exhibits until I was told, “No phot” so I won’t upload those photos but it’s a shame because the work was very colorful and creative. When in the area, check it out as it is updated frequently.
