Rick picked four of us up promptly at the cruise port and off we went to enjoy the great outdoors. Very comfortable vehicle with bottle waters. After a day of hiking, Rick asked if we would like to sample some of his favorite local foods- we all said YES! Bubble tea, scallion pancake which was finished with yummy dumplings. Taiwan Vista Tour provided us with a great port day. Communication was top notch from beginning to end.

We were hosted by our guide and driver Rick. The car and overall transport was excellent. We visited many scenic places and learned there history from Rick. We appreciated his detailed instructions on how to venture out on our own while to enjoy the gorge trails while Rick met us at a designated meeting point. This was both efficient and enjoyable as we went at our own pace. We especially enjoyed visiting some of his favorite eateries and enjoyed local foods with both confidence and context. He openly shared his culture and experiences with us and is a great ambassador for his company. We wish him luck in his career.

Jeff was our first tour guide on our trip to Taiwan and he was knowledgeable about which historical sites and natural parks to visit and which street food was delicious. Although he seemed to know a lot about physical locations, he could have done a better job expressing more historical information. Our goal was to do a city tour of Taipei and a tour of the nearby hillside town Xinbei. We started by going to Yehliu Geopark, which has natural rock formations along the coast, one of which is called “Queen’s Head” for its distinct shape. It was a very windy day, yet the tide was low so we had a very good view of the formations. Unfortunately, it was very crowded even though it was our first stop of the day. Jeff showed us the various rocks and it was worth the trip. Afterwards we learned a lot about the main religions of Taiwan by visiting a beautiful temple in Rueifang, Xinbei city. Next, we walked through the main shopping street and tried a variety of street foods, our favorites were Tang Yuan with red beans, something similar to Japanese Imagawayaki and an ice cream wrap with finely shaved peanuts. After our snacks, we headed to see Shifen waterfall, which was worth the visit. The water looked wonderful as the sun set. We walked alongside a river in a protected forest area. Our last stop for the day was Pingxi, which is known for its large sky lanterns. People were able to buy lanterns and write meaningful messages before lighting them and watching them float away in the sky. It was the perfect activity for early dusk. Overall we had a very good day with Jeff, he is a very good guide and we are glad we chose this tour!
