It's alright

Maybe I just didn't know much of the history behind it. But I seen most on the island. This is one of the things the was alright. But it was just a tower you can't even enter in the middle of a small village. Like I said, maybe I just didn't know enough history on it beforehand.

A historic neighbourhood

It's worth a visit to these historic buildings in Shui'tou neighbourhood, which is located 15 mins from Jin'cheng downtown. Deyue Tower is one of the well preserved western buildings in the neighbourhood. There are also other historic buildings, including Jincheng Primary School and Shuitou Historical Houses.

The Wind Lion Cultural Museum is located right next to Deyue Tower, where you could learn more about the Wind Lion (Shisa or Guidance Lions) and try an interestingly named milk tea there.

this building is located at shuitou village and it was built to prevent from pirates. a very special building where full of combination of western and eastern culture. Every single corner and bricks on the house symbolized the beliefs and culture on the olden folks.

Quaint but nice

Even though this Tower ain't big, it is one of the better attractions that I have visited in this island. The Tower is there for a purpose, as a look out for pirates that used to taunt local people. Local people that have made it big overseas would remit funds to build this fortress to fend local people from those "pest" pirates and the Western influenced architecture is to showcase their wealth. The souvenir shop here actually sells a healthy dosage of stuff that's relevant to local culture. Overall, it's one of the better destinations that I have been here thus far. Commendable visit.

Nice Little Landmark
Jan 2015 • Solo
Deyue Tower was used to as lookout tower to spot pirates during the early 20th century. The tower isn't really that tall and unfortunately you cannot go inside it. However, there is museum adjacent to it with lots of information about the inhabitants and migrants of the island. Plus, there are some cool traditional homes nearby. Oh, and it's free.
