Easy hiking

Very close to Jiaoxi main street. You can get to the trail easily from most of the hotels. Road condition is very good.

Long trail

This is a trail not far from the train station, however, it is not as scenic as one may think. Good place to get your week's worth of exercise though!

Catch Great Views of Yilan City Here
Dec 2016 • Solo
The Paoma Historical Trail is an extremely long trail that can lead you to Wufengchi Waterfalls and also other places. From the top you can take nice pictures of Yilan City landscape. You will meet many friendly trekkers who are very fit and will greet you. This place is accessible via the 111 Yilan Line Shuttle Bus (alight at Paoma Historical Trail itself)

An Ancient Trail in the Hills Overlooking Jiaoxi town and the Plain Beyond
Oct 2016 • Solo
I got here by a leisure cycle of about 10 minutes from Tangweigou Hot Spring Park. It is also accessible by bus 111 from Jiaoxi tourist shuttle bus from Jiaoxi train station or Jiaoxi bus station.

The actual length of the trail is 1.5km on paved road (which is suitable for cars and bicycles) and another 6.57km (more suited for hiking and walking as it is on uneven sandy ground).

It is a quiet part of the town, although there were 2-3 locals also doing walking exercises on the trail. The trail from the south entrance leads upwards into the hilly areas overlooking Jiaoxi town and the plain beyond. From higher up on the trail while still on the paved road, one can see Guishan Island and the Pacific Ocean in the distance. Overall, a nice walk up the hills in the early morning.

I did not get a chance to do the 6.57 km hike which supposedly takes another 2-3 hours, leading one to a far away distance from Jiaoxi and heading towards the highways and towards Taipei. But I completed the 1.5km walk up the paved roads in about 20 min.

While walking this trail is not a totally unique experience compared to other trails I've walked in other parts of Taiwan, it is still a nice refreshing change compared to the other activities in Jiaoxi which are focused around enjoyment of hot springs and local delicacies.
