This is our second visit this year
We came last time in April during long weekend, due to COVID 19, there wasn't a lot of people. Traveling with kids under 6, 3-4 hours is enough.
We came again in June, but there were lots people, it seems like waiting time is long but rides was short
-the ferris wheel only goes around 2 turns even though there is no lineups
Overall LeoFoo is great animal educational park
The bus, train, and monkey bicycle are the must go on, young children will enjoy them. Other facilities are more or less similar to other parks

I was pondering how to have a great time with the family running between Hong Kong Disneyland and Taiwan's sightseeing/shopping/dining in 6 days. I came upon this website of Leo Foo Resort that meets the needs of my two young children - two and a half years-old and 8 years-old girls as well as my wife.
We stayed at Leo Foo Resort for four days and three nights. Excellent hospitality provided by the staffs.
Lost one of our luggages at the Airport and with much help from the receptionist (They have been contacting tirelessly on my behalf to the airport and airline) we get back our luggage early next morning with a small delivery fee. Excellent service!
My eldest girl is allergy to dust mite and egg and surprisingly, the room is very well maintained with no carpets. Bathroom with two showers are great for children. Don't mind having no bathtubs. Two large beds for a family of four are sufficient. Especially with those big pillows!
The view of the animals is fantastic...animals from the kids' favorite show Madagascar - at least most of the animals like Lemurs, Giraffes, Zebras, tortoises, Rhinos, Ostriches etc...
The restaurant serves organic food - vegetables and the chef had, in fact, created special dish for my girl who is allergy to egg! What a thoughtful act! Throughout the stay, my girls are healthy and energetic! No strong animal odor from the room.
As usual, such places will be filled with children playing around and it's great to know they enjoyed it while hearing their cheers in our room.
The visit to the largest Cactus farm in Taiwan is very memorable as we chat with the owner and enjoyed the scenery as well as making our very own Cactus collection in a pot.
Since we have tasted the food at the resort, I was looking for alternatives during dinner time. Another warm surprise from the receptionist is that she make an effort to call restaurants at the Leo Foo Village next door on my behalf (very close to closing time for the theme park) just to check any food without egg for my girl. And she found one and drove me there to pick up our dinner! Excellent customer service!
No doubt that our first family visit to Taiwan during Nov/Dec timeframe is cold for us (19 degrees Celsius plus strong wind). The second day, I have enquired about how to keep warm inside the room and within less than 15 minutes, I have the heater brought into our room.
The visit to Leo Foo Village is memorable too. My girls love riding on the horses and feeding all the animals - goats and horses at close ranges. Not forgetting the safari style ride at close ranges with the lions, tigers and black bears. As we don't drive like the locals, the receptionist drove us there and picks us up again when we are done.
The animals at Leo Foo Resort are well taken care with staffs getting up early to clean up the sites as well as feeding the animals. We were even told not to feed the giraffe with a whole branch of leaves as it has hurt its mouth and can only eat leaves.
One area of improvement that I would recommend is having Laundry services for those who are not local. Such services will allow foreigners to stay longer than to move on to another location to have their laundry done there. English speaking staffs will be a plus!
In short, we have a wonderful and memorable stay in Leo Foo Resort and left with great anticipation for our next visit as we head towards our next destination at Taipei for more dining/shopping and sightseeing.
To all the staffs at Leo Foo Resort, well done and work hard! Your hard work will be rewarded!

4 theme parks within the village.
Must go the African Safari where the rides will bring you very close to the animals. Good experience and substitute if you have not been to a real safari before. The children zoo, which is next to Safari allows the young one to come face to face with the pony and goats
The remaining theme parks basically contains the amusement rides, which caters to different age group.
There are restaurants in the village so food (although on the high side) should not be a problem.
There is a separate water theme park which is next to the village. Requires additional entrance fees.
A money saving tip - buy the entrance fees from the ibon machine in 7-eleven. Prices are about 30% cheaper.

Leofoo Village is a theme park and African themed hotel. Overall, it is an interesting experience with animals roaming pass your room window but tainted by poor service and system. We stayed only for one night to test the hotel before recommending to other friends and family. We could have extended our stay (as we have a flexible itinerary) but we decided not to due to the overall mediocre experience. For the hotel, the lobby was small. When we arrived at 2pm, it was extremely crowded with some guests dozing off on the sofa. Dance performance were carried out periodically right at the door of the lobby, blocking luggage entrance. Reception check-in was disorganized; no proper line was formed so family with kids were served first which was fine except that they left our luggages unattended and a few kids ran into them and kicked it. Their smallest room is actually for 4 and weird enough, with 2 shower area but no bath tub. The best part of the experience was probably the ability to view ostriches and goats from the comfort of your room. The fallback is that despite the hotel attempt to make reflective window, outsiders are able to view the interior of your room if your don't draw the curtains. The room is generally clean but having poor sound proofing would mean that you have to pray that there is no kids screaming, running down the corridors. Unfortunately we had a few kids next door that was horse-playing, crying and kicking the wall till late night. The push/pull heavy doors entering the hotel is dangerous and in our short stay, we saw 2 cases of the door slamming into toddlers face. As for the safari ride with giraffes feeding included in our hotel package, we got sick from the driving. The guide was in a huge rush to get thru with it. Driving fast and sadly never come to a full stop whenever we reach a viewing spot. Disappointed that we were not able to capture any shot without motion blur, we wonder if their hurried pace is due to safety reasons or because they have a lot of passengers to get thru. The giraffes feeding was a great experience but again we were hurried onto the car. During the ride we got to know that Leofoo has limited species but their numbers are quite huge - 30 lions when we visited. However, there was little or no explanation of how the animals are taken care of, as animals lovers, we are concerned that there maybe an over-crowding situation. Another concern we had was for the animals place in the hotel compound. Rhinos placed there for boardwalk viewing also has very limited active areas. Some guests with their kids were feeding the animals chocolate buns and stomping on the boardwalk but they were not stopped. It makes us wonder about their claim about conservation and education. At night, the place can get pretty windy in Oct and surprisingly the animals placed in the hotel will not be moved to their night enclosure. For dinner, we had our food in their Golden Phoenix Restaurant and their buffet was quite acceptable. The only part that was a little disturbing was that we saw some waitresses accidentally dropping the cutlery and they simply picked it up to place on the table for the next guest to use. Then again, we did not get any stomach upset from the food. The next day, we visited their theme park. We wanted to put our luggage with the hotel for later collection but was told that the theme park has lockers. When asked if it will be big enough for our luggages, we were told that if it is not big enough, we can approach the guest services. Not all hotel staff was unfriendly though, there is this one potter who was not wearing any name tag can speak average english and is very helpful whenever his coworkers brush us off. There is no official shuttle bus to take you from the hotel to the theme park so the lobby receptionist has to drive us there. Only then we realized that the staff there might be overworked and multi-tasking too much. Arriving at the theme park, the guest service staff did not issue any receipt for keeping the luggage in their pet corner. We even highlighted that we have a laptop in it and they have to be careful not to lose it, however, the staff hurried us to the entrance and told us to enjoy the park. True enough when we came for the luggages at the end of the day, they did not verify our identity and simply allow us to pick up any luggages. Basically this means that as long anyone claim that they have a luggage, they can pick up anyone's luggage. We were hoping that if they are going to have different staff on duty, the least they could have done is to have some sort of system and verification. In the park, it has 4 main sections, namely arabian kingdom, African safari, south pacific and western cowboy. Each section has quite a number of rides, suitable for both young and older kids. The priority queue given to hotel guests was not labelled properly at rides so we ended up queuing like everyone else. Most of the rides seem well maintained. A weird thing about the park is that all iron cast chairs are bolted a distance from the table, making a rather uncomfortable al fresco lunch - can't really expect much from theme park food. The best ride in the park for us was the train thru the safari and the walk thru monkey garden. We were not given any brochure to tell us about any performance within the park so we presumed there is nothing more than the rides and animal in enclosure. On the whole, this is prolly a place more suited for chinese speaking family with younger kids, definitely not a place for foreign visitors.

This has got to be the worst excuse for a theme park I've ever been in.
The first thing I noticed upon arrival with my tour group, was that this place was deserted. There was literally no one around, except us, the theme park staff, and a scatter of Taiwanese students. First impression: Hmm. Not much business, is there?
Then minutes later, we were practically insulted by a security guard there. My dad had obtained the vouchers from our tour guide, and these vouchers were for our usage in the theme park. So my dad was then giving it out to the rest of us family members, when this guard came to my dad and repeatedly asked if he was selling black market tickets. We were so shocked, the question didn't even register for a while. Then, hello? Hell no, we are tourists! Can you not see there's a huge group of 40 tourists all standing around at the entrance? And to be brutally honest, just look at how god-forsaken this place is -- is there anyone who'd bother selling black market tickets to this place? This is how you treat your tourists? Talk about idiocy.
Then when we got into the place, we all went about looking for food, since it was lunchtime. Following the map we were given, we finally walked in the bitter cold winds of December to one of the restaurants, only to find that it's closed. That was when I realized that more than 50% of the restaurants and eateries in this theme park are closed. Not closed for renovation or anything; people are just not doing their jobs. How the heck do you run a theme park business like that? It's appalling.
While inside the theme park, the apparent popularity of this place didn't change. It was still just us, the tour group members, and a scatter of Taiwanese students. The only thing most interesting was the safari, or what looks like a miserable attempt to be a safari. First thing I saw upon entering were the orangutans, and those poor creatures were so obviously shivering in the cold. It sure didn't help that what should've been their glorious, long coat of hair had all but fallen off, exposing their skinny butts to the cold winds. I think of the loved orangutans in my country's own zoo, and my heart could've wept for these orangutans in Leofoo Village Theme Park.
The parrots were pretty, and allowing us to interact in person with them was very fun. The white tigers were impressive too, but these 2 items were pretty much it, that even brought a smile to my face.
There was a selection of monkey-related breeds in a compound, just one or two of each breed. There was a bus ride through the wild animal safari too, but the driver just zoomed through everything, we hardly even got the chance to snap photos. It's like the guy was just breezing through it, in a hurry to get off work. It's a stark contrast to the safari bus ride we took in Korea's Everland, which I have very fond memories of.
And what was left of the cafes and eateries still open, started to close very early around 2.30pm. The rides, around 4.30pm. By the end of my stay in this miserable theme park, I decided the theme park really has seen better days, and it could do with some serious overhaul and TLC now, after 35 years. Otherwise, it's time to end business, because I have never seen such a deserted, miserable theme park.
Given the option, I certainly wouldn't waste my time and effort going again.

We came to this resort only because of the Safari theme, and we were not disappointed. Kids could not believe it when Zebra and Giraffe pass by our windows!
Breakfast and Dinner buffet spread has variety and food is tasty !
We would recommend a two night stay for kids to soak in African Safari theme :)

Leo foo is a fun amusement park about 1.5 hrs away from Taipei. Before you go, check the website for their color of the month discount. If you wear that color, you get nearly half off the admission price. Also, if you go on your birthday, you can bring a friend for free.

My family of 2 adults and 2 kids stayed at Leo Foo Resort Guanxi for 2 nights during a recent holiday in Taipei. It's obviously a grand idea which has enormous potential - having a hotel surrounded by live African wildlife, the staff and activities all having an African influence. Unfortunately it came up a little short in our expectations; firstly the positives: Very clean room, 2 huge beds easily accommodating our family of 4, animals walking around the hotel and outside your window- giraffes, lemurs, goats, ostriches, rhinoceros, flamingoes and zebra. A walk across the theme park car park gets you to Leo Foo Theme Park, which has an African section where the "nairobi express" train takes you for a tour around similar animals and you can bicycle in the air around the monkey enclosure. Now the negatives: Being relatively isolated outside Hsinchu 100 km south of Taipei, there are no other restaurants nearby so guests have no choice but eat in the hotel. When guest numbers are low, they shut down the buffet restaurant, so one has no choice but eat in the organic African restaurant, which serves exotic fare like bread with mint sauce, cactus juice, meat with whole peppercorn and grass jelly dessert. This might be ok for adventurous adults but hits a significant hurdle with fussy kids. One of the days we stayed was rained out, and while the resort tries to put on daily activities, we really thought regular dance shows with resort staff dressed up as African warriors and as lions really missed a great opportunity in showcasing the real animals within arm's reach in the hotel.

This is probably one of the highlights of our Taipei vacation.
LeoFoo is comprised of 4 main areas, all accessible from the rotunda from the main entrance, and all inter-connected with each other. Since we have a 6-year old with us, we decided on a counter-clockwise direction and started off with African Safari. We easily spent 3-4 hours in this area alone! We didn't have time to explore Wild West area anymore, too bad.
Some quick notes to share:
- You can bring in food and water. There are NO free water stations available, but bottled water is cheap, I think only 30 NTD for 500 mL.
- We liked our lunch at the African Safari restaurant - pork chop noodle. Really big portion and got me full (that's coming from a pregnant lady LOL). You should also try the lemur chocolate buns which sell at 70 NTD, really good!
- Clean washrooms throughout the park.
- As per the map, there is a steak house/restaurant in Wild West. We didn't get to try but it seems like there are a lot more food options in that area.
- For rubber-stamp collectors like me, the stamp station is located near the entrance/exit, in front of the guest/visitor center. There were 4 stamps available!
- Try to arrive early at the park to maximize your trip, since park closes at 5PM.
- Food stalls and restaurants start closing down by 4:30 PM.
- If travelling in winter, make sure to pack extra warm clothes. We went here last week of December and was not prepared for the cold (and wind chill).
This is definitely worth a day of your itinerary when you are vacationing in Taipei. Though make sure to research first on how to travel/reach this place!
I do not suggest boarding Bus 5350 from the Jingan station, as the bus will be full by then. Try to board the bus early - 8-9am - from the earlier stops. You can check out the details by looking up E-go bus 5350 route/schedule from Google and plan your trip accordingly. LeoFoo is comprised of 4 main areas, all accessible from the rotunda from the main entrance, and all inter-connected with each other. Since we have a 6-year old with us, we decided on a counter-clockwise direction and started off with African Safari. We easily spent 3-4 hours in this area alone! We didn't have time to explore Wild West area anymore, too bad.
Some quick notes to share:
- You can bring in food and water. There are NO free water stations available, but bottled water is cheap, I think only 30 NTD for 500 mL.
- We liked our lunch at the African Safari restaurant - pork chop noodle. Really big portion and got me full (that's coming from a pregnant lady LOL). You should also try the lemur chocolate buns which sell at 70 NTD, really good!
- Clean washrooms throughout the park.
- As per the map, there is a steak house/restaurant in Wild West. We didn't get to try but it seems like there are a lot more food options in that area.
- For rubber-stamp collectors like me, the stamp station is located near the entrance/exit, in front of the guest/visitor center. There were 4 stamps available!
- Try to arrive early at the park to maximize your trip, since park closes at 5PM.
- Food stalls and restaurants start closing down by 4:30 PM.
- If travelling in winter, make sure to pack extra warm clothes. We went here last week of December and was not prepared for the cold (and wind chill).
This is definitely worth a day of your itinerary when you are vacationing in Taipei. Though make sure to research first on how to travel/reach this place!
I do not suggest boarding Bus 5350 from the Jingan station, as the bus will be full by then. Try to board the bus early - 8-9am - from the earlier stops. You can check out the details by looking up E-go bus 5350 route/schedule from Google and plan your trip accordingly.
