The Old Caoling Tunnel is the first railroad tunnel renovated as a cycling tunnel in North Taiwan. The Old Tunnel is designed with a railroad museum concept. Cycling through the Old Caoling Tunnel with train sound effects is just like going through a real railroad tunnel, feeling not only retro but also fun. The Old Caoling Tunnel cycling path links Shicheng and Longmen campsite, drawing out a beautiful mountain coast green cycling lawn through the north-eastern cape. Along the coast, enjoy the blue ocean and craftsmanship of nature in the ocean wind. During the “Ho-Hai-Yan Gongliao Rock Festival” held in Fulong Beach every July, indie bands around the world are invited to perform here and attract numerous music loving youths to gather and have fun in the water enjoying nights of music with an evening ocean breeze. One can also experience the slow lifestyle of farms and gardens, and feel the clean air, pure water, and good soil of organic farms. The locals harvest crops to sell in Shuangxi Station morning market. They are as friendly and simplistic as the Shuangxi crops sold.

Longdong is a fantastic spot for snorkeling. It is a one of a kind experience. To get there you must climb over rocks ranging from bowling ball to car size. I’m 49 and in good health and it took me 15-20 minutes to go from where the street ended to the place where people get in the water.

Make sure you wear closed-toe shoes as the hike can be treacherous. I didn’t know this and wore sandals. I made it but it would have been much better if I had appropriate foot wear. Many people wore booties they rented from the dive shops in the area. They worked but I recommend shoes.

I do not recommend this place for people with foot, knee or leg problems. I think the walk would be too difficult.

Next time I go I will bring everything I need in a backpack so my hands are free to help me get over the big rocks. I will also being more drinking water as well as food. The hike from your car to the water is so far that you won’t want to go back unless it is absolutely necessary.

Longdong is very popular especially on weekends. We went on a Saturday around 11 am and there were already hundreds of people enjoying the water. If you want to take advantage of the free parking you should get there earlier.

If you need to rent snorkeling gear there are quite a few places to choose from. There are even little shops to buy drinks. I only saw one bathroom / shower facility. It was right along the path to the snorkeling beach. There is a small fee to use either of them.

Over all I was so glad that we went here to go snorkeling. I loved every minute of my day here.

I hope my advice will help someone avoid making the mistakes that I made my first time going.

I am surprised no one ever write a review about it. As a member of Taipei Hikers, we always arrange a trip to this place on weekend at least once in a month. Longdong is known for its beautiful blue color beach which is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. There is a small shop adjacent to the place that can rent u any kind of gear that u need. U can take bus directly to Longdong from Taipei main station (Near eslite exite) for about 110 NTD one way around 8-9 am (the bus is available hourly). Enjoy the scenic view along the bus-journey, better u take the window-seat on the left side for better exposure. Tho its a heaven for sea-lover and swimmers, but to its also a paradise for rock climbers. The formation of rocks here is just beyond stunning. Perfect place for all nature lovers who visit Taipei. If u prefer to hike, u can hike and find the longdong cave. Its an easy hike , around an hour then u will have to return to the main path again if u wish to do snorkeling. Do not ever plan to hike from longdong cave to snorkeling area since the rocks are sharp and difficult to climb.
