Our amazing BnB Sunsweet House told me to do Eryanping Trail as part of a 100-minute loop starting from 茶霧之道, which makes it easier as there are a lot of steps going up and down but not as many up this way - not too bad at all! Although normally for sunset, I got to the gazebo up 茶霧之道 for sunrise and it was absolutely breathtaking! There's a bus stop called Anding 鞍頂 after getting down from Eryanping. The tierd tea fields and layers of mountains like Chinese watercolor art make this an incredible walk.

AMAZING. Discovered that this was near my homestay, and was excited to take on this trail. Started at about 7am and reached the peak at about 8am (with many pitstops to take snaps & videos of the sunrise and clear skies).

The trail can be slippery after the rain, so do take note of the previous day's weather condition! My homestay owner informed me of the alternative route to the trail - which is to enter through "Chuan Shuo Lu" (传说路) instead of the steep wooden trail beside 53.1 Homestay.

I also met a lovely local elderly couple who were waiting for the "Yun Hai" (sea of clouds) at the peak. I did not wait for the phenomenon and totally wished I did.

Eryan ping trail is not so well maintained. But not bad at all compared to other places I had been to. You can see plenty of bamboo trees around the trail. It has 2 pavilion, we can see the sunset at 1st pavillion but better in the 2 nd pavillion. The first pavillion is near the tea farm where you can get beautiful shots. It took us around 30 minutes to get to 1st pavillion. Surrounded by nature, bamboo trees, tea farms and nearby has camping sites also. Since its getting dark, we didn’t go to 2 nd pavillion. But we ride a car going up 2nd pavillion the following day. Not for sunset but to see the beautiful mountain ranges. In this area, you can watch the beautiful sunrise also. Just by the highway. No need to walk the trail.

We were thrilled with the views as we climbed the steps from the parking. At the top pavillon we stayed for longer time until the sunset. It was an incredible experience as we watched the famous "sea of clouds" phenomenon. One of the local photographers kept telling us that we are very lucky - came there for the first time and at once we saw the sea of clouds. Check my photos to see what I am talking about.

Climb is not difficult as the wooden stairs lead you right to the viewpoint, but may be bit tiring. And do not forget a rain jacket as the weather can change in a moment.

Definitely Eryanping trail was one of the highlights of our trip to Alishan.

It is worth to take around 45min to go there from Alishan. The trekking route is very nice and blissful. Sunset view from the top of hill is awesome.

A set of stairs lead to the viewing platforms taking about 40 minutes one way with lots of photo stops. The view was breathtaking. Scenic tea plantations, sea of clouds and amazing sunset. Really easy and planked stairs all the way. We stayed for the sunset and it was a clear day. We even brought a torch although we didnt use it.

Our minsu owner drove us to the start of the trail even though it was a very cloudy day to view sunset. My husband walked to the first pavilion while my daughter and I walked on to the second pavilion. Finally I walked by myself to the third pavilion which consists of many steps uphill. At the third pavilion, there were many cars parked there for those which just drove up to this pavilion for sunset view.
On my return to the second pavilion, there were two men who used a drone to determine whether sunset viewing was possible. Alas, it was too cloudy.
However I felt a sense of satisfaction having walked to all three pavilions. Our minsu owner came to fetch us at 5.20 pm and it had turned dark and started to rain. Weather was really unpredictable. Walk is quite short but consists of many steps.

This sky blue European-style store usually catches people’s attention at first sight. There are plenty of stories here for you to find out more about this place. It is next to David’s House.
